Sago sundal is simple and nutritious food. Perfect for festival day fasting.  Sundal is must for Navaratri. you can try this simple sundal which is quite filling too. It is good for after school snack too. It gives long lasting energy. If you soak both dal and sago this can be prepared in less than 15 mins. I have used ghee to season it but you can replace it with your favourite oil to make it vegan. This can be served for breakfast too. Do try out this sundal for this festive season

This is new dish for me. First I saw this in Spicychilly looked so simple so I had it in my list to do later I almost forgot about it after that I saw it in Rakskitchen which was done without any maida I was so surprised about the texture of it. I decided to try out immediately and when I tried I had harder poori. Later I realized my mistake yeah when I made my dough it was too tight so even enough resting didn't help so this time when I made the dough first it was little loose and allow it to rest for almost 1 hr 30 mins and knead again for about 5 mins  I got nice soft dough almost like puri (wheat or maida) It came out very nice!

Kesari! this is is what I get whenever I ask my husband for an option to make any sweet. He loves all the variations. That explains number of kesari recipes on my blog. Paal Kesari / Milk Kesari, Kesari, Pappaya kesari, Pineapple Kesari, Kesari, Mango kesari, Atta Kesari, Aval Kesari, Vermecelli Kesari, Millet Kesari. Still whenever we visit MTR he orders Kesari bath without any fail. It has mix of Semiya and Rava. The mix goes well too. So for this time I wanted to try this variation.

Waffles! My kids love it! Most probably, every kid loves it too. I tried at my cousin's place last year or year before. That time itself I have added to my list of things to be added. Somehow I couldn't make it. The other day I had only 1 cup batter, which I couldn't use it for anything. Then I browsed through my list of things to try and saw this one. So I made this as snack. I told my sons that I am going to make waffles for a snack. They were so excited, but when I served this, they questioned, "Is this Uttappam?" I said give it a try. Later they told me it is a crispier uttapam. And they liked it.

I don't cook potatoes that often as my kids are not big fans of it. However after corn cheese balls / cheese corn balls kids like potato cheese combo. I wanted to try this potato croquettes for some time. This is very simple after school snacks or party starters. This is something you can prepare and store it in the freezer and cook when the guests are home or kids are back from school. I have used Italian mixed herb in it you can add any dry spices like oregano, dill or rosemary. Combination of green chilies, mixed herb and pepper powder really gives great flavor to this dish. I have used carrot in this but you can add your favorite vegetables.

My mum always do Ridge gourd peel thogayal / Chutney. This is one of my favourite (surprised that is not on my space yet.. will post soon). When I make this at home my kids and my hubby doesn't eat much.  I wanted to make as fried rice to see whether they find this out. I have added milk while making gravy but you can replace it with coconut milk. I love both the flavours. Everyone loved it and they didn't find it out. Perfect way to include less favourite vegetable into your kids lunch / dinner

I have posted Vegetable Spring roll in my blog before. This is one of my tea time recipes, especially on weekends. This time I wanted to try a different stuffing. I added mushrooms and some sprouts. Since there is not much masala in it, I decided to add Peanut powder. It came out very nice. Perfect for the weekend. Or you can prepare it in the morning and freeze it till evening for an after-school snack. The same stuffing can be used for a bread sandwich, too.

I normally make jack fruit seeds sambar. For making jack fruit seeds sambar I need to buy a few packs of jack fruits and use it. These days you get seeds alone which is good. I saw jack fruit seeds pakora in few blogs. Since I had some jack fruit seeds I decided to try it out.  It came out crispy. This is different than normal pakoda as it has less flour.. It can be good for tea time or after school snacks for the kids. I didn't mash it completely I prefer to have little chunks. You can serve with ketchup or coconut chutney. it is definitely a keeper recipe.

Making kulambu with mixed vathal was in my list for a while. My mum makes Vatha kulambu Other time when I was there I brought this mixed vathal bag. My kids love different types of puli kulambu / Kuzhambu . This one is no exception. Keerai kootu (with coconut) or Keerai kootu goes well with this. Of course any crackers will go well too. During my school days my grandma makes vathal during vegetable season and distribute to all the kids house.. Now a days we buy from shops

Jhaal Muri - Kolkata puffed rice snack - Street food - Jhal muri recipe

When I first saw it in a restaurant menu some time ago, I asked the server what is this and he said that it was similar to bhel puri but with puri and chutney. When I tasted it, I liked the unique flavour, so I asked him what the unique flavor was and he told me it is from mustard oil. So the next day I searched for mustard oil and brought a small bottle. Even though I can guess the flavors, I searched on the internet for the recipe. I kind mixed from few sites. It tasted great. If you like the flavor of mustard, you should try it out.

I love to have kolukattai / kozhukattai however my rest of the family likes only savoury version (kara version). I do kozhukattai for evening snacks or breakfast. It is simple to make yet very tasty. I had this one with Tomato Chutney As I wanted something spicy to go with it. But you can have it by itself. This recipe is simple for even beginners. if you are not doing it for naivedyam (to offer god) you can add onion, garlic too. Do try out and let me know.

Even though I love Kolukattai my kids are not a big fans of it. This week since both of them are out of home I got to try try a different version. I have seen Carrot Madak in few blogs. I had book marked it for quite sometime. I wanted to try both savoury and sweet version. Both turned out pretty good and I had it for my next day breakfast too. It is a good way to give vegetable to your kids. I have used store bought idiyappam flour. You can use Kolukattai flour or home made rice flour.

My sons these days like noodles especially the local flavour. When I visited India some time ago, the younger generation also like fusion food. We can see lots of Chinese food in most of the hotels. Noodles are famous in India also. These days you get a different kind of noodles. I tried this with store brought fresh noodles you can do it with your favourite noodles round medium size noodles will work well. I have used broccoli in the noodles as it is favourite with my boys.. but you can replace it with beans and cabbage.

My mom makes simple aval / Poha / beaten rice snack with boiled milk, poha, and sugar during our school/college day as an evening snack. I was not a big fan of it as I didn't take much of milk / Milk products those days. Now a days I started taking yogurt at least for one meal a day. If I need something quick for lunch, Some yogurt rice / Curd rice. It is very fast and you can substitute with millets/vermicelli. Around Gokulashtami time, I saw a few posts on Gopalkala. Panchamirtham - During my school days, I got Palani panchamirtham. I was not aware of the goodness of it. So far, I have never tried homemade panchamirtham before. I have tasted this at one of my friend's place recently and loved the taste (in fact, I tasted it after almost 10 years) I took the recipe from her. It is made with 5 different ingredients. If you have banana it is so simple to make and most gods love it. It's a perfect naivedyam recipe for busy/working women. Do try this out and let me know the taste. Edible camphor (Pachai karpooram) gives a unique taste to the dish and I love it. Using your hand to mash gives best taste

When I heard about Barley Payasam/kheer sometime ago, I was quite skeptical about how it will taste. So, I never thought of making it at home. However, recently, I tried this at one of the restaurants. To my surprise, it tasted nice (yes, I was pleasantly surprised by the rich taste). It was made with coconut milk & Jaggery. Sometimes, you do get surprises (in the taste). I decided to try it out and it went into my list of dishes to try (and of course to post). I have done with milk rather than coconut milk. Adding Sweet corn into vada really give a nice sweet, spicy combo which gives quite a unique taste to vadai. I have used fresh corn without cooking. It tasted good. You can use frozen ones too. I love to try different variations to vada. Initially I wanted to add cheese but I decided against as not sure how it will taste in.But I will post another version with cheese soon. I was tempted to try out a spinach muffin recipe after seeing a picture on Instagram. I was searching for an eggless recipe. I have referred a recipe from here. I made some small tweaks. It came about pretty well. Addition of spinach really gives nice attractive color to the muffin. I have used 50% Wheat flour and 50% all-purpose flour. This is one of the simple recipes where a blender is used to mix all wet ingredients. Do try out this. It can be good for a kids snack box for school or after school.

Kachori is a simple evening snack. I have posted a few kachori recipes. This besan is simpler than others and quick to make especially the stuffing. If you are looking for something which is not sweet or with vegetable, this is a perfect choice. The stuffing in the kachori has an all-in-one taste: the spice and tanginess. If you make your outer layer dough properly, kachori can stay crispy for a long time. Even though my sons enjoy any type of savory snack this one is one of their favourite. My sons were not fond of any other sandwich except peanut butter, butter toast, or Nutella. However, these changed in the last couple of years. They tried different sandwiches with different loaves of bread. During school days, they don't pack any Indian breakfast. So when I saw this grilled paneer recipe on the net I know it will go well with the sandwich. I have added roasted bell pepper, mushroom, eggplant and avocado. But you can include your favourite vegetables like lettuce, tomato etc. Also for the spread, I have used pesto. You can use green chutney or you can skip it.

I love ridge gourd. My mum always makes this chutney for idli. If you make it with less water, you can have it with steamed rice. I love my mum's version. She adds coconut and coriander leaves and it gives a nice flavour to the chutney. It also helps change the slight bitterness of the skin. You should fry until it is fully cooked. Recently, I read that the skin has a lot of vitamins so you can use it some recipe like this instead of throwing it out.

This is one of the fusion dishes. It definitely will impress your little guests as it will have their favourite pasta. It is one of the dishes which can feed your choosy eaters. This is a perfect starter for your party. I have used black chickpea but you can add any whole bean. Make sure the bean is nicely cooked and not so mushy. Same for the pasta too. I have added 1:1/2 portion for bean to pasta. You can adjust based on your preference. I have used Dabeli masala for seasoning it. However you can use Sundal masala or your favourite seasoning.

Tabbouleh is a very simple salad. I have tried it with oats, quinoa or red rice and they all taste wonderful. The flavor of parsley is really good. In this post, I am using oats (rolled oats) but, you can replace it with quinoa, red rice, steel cut oats or even brown rice. It is quite refreshing in this summer. I didn't have pomegranate so I missed it but the addition of pomegranate really enhances the nutritional value and taste of this recipe.

I wanted to try brownie cookies (brookies) for quite some time. Then, the microwave broke so I kind of forgot about it. I didn't have a microwave for a long time. I just bought one again. I love to try different chaats. This one can be prepared in no time if you have chaat chutneys in the fridge (Which I always do) I have tried this with fresh or frozen corn. Both will work. However to cut your cooking time you can use frozen corn. This can be a quick snack to kids after their school. I prefer not to pack for their school snack as the Sev you use in this might become soggy. Best eaten immediately after you prepared it.

My kids love murukku...I wanted to try coconut flavour murukku. I do know pepper and garlic will go well with coconut. I have decided to fry it in coconut oil to really increase the coconut flavour. I have posted Amras ki malai aloo, a recipe that everyone in the family loved. I wanted to try another side dish this year. I was thinking about a paneer-based recipe as I had store bought-paneer in the fridge which I need to finish soon. So, I tried this paneer mango or mango paneer ( whatever you want to call it ). I have used lemon juice for sourness but if you want, you can add tomatoes. Also, I have ground onion, ginger, and garlic but you can skip the grinding part. I loved it with my naan and Jeera rice, so do try out and let me know your favorite variations.

When I was asked to do 6 taste supplements to Aval Viktan I was thinking about recipes with bitter tastes. I had too many bitter gourd recipes. So I was not sure what else can be done. I tried this Sunda vathal podi. It turned out perfect esp with steamed with rice with addition of sutta ennai (oil used for frying) or with Ghee. Are you one of those crazy biryani folks? After trying out Vegetarian Rendang I wanted to try out fresh turmeric recipes. Recently, I met few colleagues who were having turmeric every day (yes, just 1 teaspoon of turmeric mixed with water). They are very content with the medical benefits it brings. I was talking to them about turmeric being used in Indian food. They packed half a kg of fresh turmeric powder with them. I wanted to try this combo for a while. This is perfect one-pot meal /salad. It is the perfect choice if you are looking for a lighter meal. I have used only 1/3 cup quinoa but you can add 1/2 cup. If you don't have quinoa you can replace it with red or brown rice or barley too. I have used orange sweet potato. You can try with other varieties, too. It is good for a kid's snack box. Adding peanuts gives crunchiness to the salad.

I have wanted to post this salad last year but I couldn't do a final picture. Since my kids love to have fresh mangoes by itself, I seldom get a chance to make other recipes with them. But this season is different as both of them are out of the house (I get to do whatever I want to try). I made this Salsa a few times. I love mango in any form. I always look forward to the Indian summer (even though a lot of my cousins hate it because of the temperature). The only reason that I look forward to the summer is because of the delicious mango. Recently, I have been drinking matcha tea almost every day, at least when I am not traveling. I am a big fan of mango. During my school and college days, I always looked forward to the mango season. I love all types of mangoes. After moving to Singapore, I get mango almost everyday especially Thai and Australian mangoes. Even though I buy those types of mangoes and enjoy them, I still look forward to the Indian mango season. Now coming to the recipe, I have posted kache aam ki chutney, and a simple Mango chutney with coconut, however, when I was in Chennai, I have tasted this version. I loved it. So I decided to give it a try (I never get bored of mango). This one is with dal and it is perfect for idli and dosa or even with hot, steamed rice. I made it a little spicy. My mango is sour so, there was no need of any tamarind. If there is not enough sourness, you can add tamarind.

I wanted to do this kebab/ cutlet for quite some time. However, I had this idea to try this kebab/ cutlet with lots of onion because it would taste wonderful. Since my first son is not a big fan of onions, I kept postponing the making of this recipe. Last week he had his tour with his friend so I took the opportunity to try. I didn't coat this with any flour or breadcrumbs but if you want to add it, you can do so. This is perfect snack / after school snack or tea time snack

I love any yogurt base Parfait. I wanted to give Indian Twist to the Parfait. I was in a mood to have spicy one too. I came up with this idea and trust me you won't be disappointed. I had this for breakfast it is so healthy, filling and perfect start for the day!. I have added pickle for the spiciness you can add spicy vegetable or any of your favourite dips.. This is definitely good way to include Millets as part of your diet. I cooked the millet but you can use left over millet. Also I have used Kodo Millet but you can replace that with any of your favourite millets

Valai Poo thogayal - plaintain flower thogayal - plaintain flower dip - Side for Rice - Vegan side

After ValaiPoo Biryani I left with some ValaiPoo String which was not enough to make poriyal. So I had decided to try out thogayal. Since only me and my helper was having lunch at home I had decided to give it a try. We had it with Hot rice and ghee but this would go well with idli dosa too. Do try out. You can add 1/4 teaspoon of Jaggery to it. I didn't add.

Any mango base dish will work for me. Also fruit base kheer requires less sugar compared to non fruit ones. I did it with Rice but you can do same with sago and vermicelli also. It is a very rich dessert with Mango and milk. I love to have it by itself and chilled. But if you want to serve with your favourite Vada or hot you can do it. Do try this rich dessert before season ends

Anything with cheese will work with my kids. I have heard a lot about potato cheese bake but since I am not a big fan of cheese I haven't tasted it so far. Last week in one lunch with friends I tried baked potato and it was actually not that bad. Last week I wanted to try baking sweet potato. Normally I do oven baked fry. Was wondering how it would turn out. It turned out pretty good. All roses disappeared fast.
