When I saw a Mother's day video from Raji from RaksKitchen I remembered a similar dish I used to have from one of my best friend from college. She normally brings it with Adai. Since Raks video called for plain Rice adai / dosa, I decided to do with Rice dosa. These days Coconut is back in health trend. I have been using coconut oil for seasoning. So for this I have used coconut oil too. My mum would be surprised as she used to reserve dishes without coconut for me. Now a days I am ok with coconut gratings in my vegetables and using coconut oil for seasoning too

Are you bored with regular sambar? Looking for some twist to regular sambar? Once I was mixing Peanut chutney and sambar and it tasted good. So I had decided to try out sambar with peanut. I made this for lunch to go with steamed rice. It tasted nice and I had it for idli in the night. It went well with idli too. I felt cashew gave a rich taste to sambar, If you want to skip you can do so. This sambar is without sambar powder or tamarind. I have used coconut oil. It gave a nice armoa. So I recommend Coconut oil

I have tried many poori and I have posted a few versions of Maida Poori, Wheat Poori, Spinach Poori, Methi Poori, Beetroot Poori, Pearl Millet (kambu) Poori in my space. However When I saw this Rice poori in one of the cookery show it was totally new to me. I wanted to try it out. But I was not sure whether my kids would like it. So I was looking for right opportunities to try (yes when you have some other back up to fall to when they don't like it). Finally I tried this and they said it is kind of nice. It is very different from other poori but nice. In the cookery show they have added coriander powder, chilli powder etc.. I just added cumin seeds. It tasted nice but if you prefer to spice it up you can add your favourite masala powders.

Last time when I had my Niece she was mentioning about pasta made by mum which was very famous. Which is news to me. After that my sis told that me too, I asked my mum for the recipe She gave me the recipe ovew phone, my kids said this is not that great.. Last month I visited her with my 2nd son. I have asked her to do it  and I recorded the recipe. Everyone loved it. When I come back I want to try it before I forget. My 1st son complemented as this is the best pasta so far. do try it out

I never thought of making Puli kulambu / Kara Kuzhambu with Sweet potato till I had tasted this in one of buffet at Chennai ITC hotel. It was a perfect blend of flavours.  I immediately added to my list of things to try. When I made it my entire family loved it. Sweet potato with Sambar powder & tamarind tasted amazing. I have used homemade sambar powder. Any curry powder will work. I have used Sesame oil for seasoning. It goes well with hot steamed rice. Orange sweet potato works well for this. This is simple enough even bachelors / beginners can try

Curry Leaves Butter Murukku - Curry Leaves butter Chakli - Diwali recipes

Anyone who doesn't like Chakli / Murukku esp butter murukku? I love to try different types of Murukku. / Chakli. My kids love it anytime. For this Diwali I wanted to try with either Mint or Curry leaves. I made with Curry Leaves. Loved the flavour. Kids who normally remove the curry leaves in any dish loved this one. It had very light green color too. I have added roated gram (Pottukadalai podi) but you can replace it with roasted urad dal powder too. I have used idiyappam flour.

During my childhood days getting Gulab Jamun / Indian sweet doughnut for every small achievement is given. Also for Festivals like Diwali Gulab Jamun is must too. I got to taste different versions of Gulab Jamun from our neighbours (to the point 1 month after Diwali no more Jamun) I used taste this stuffed Jamun (yes those days that's how we call it) Later I realized it is called Makkan Peda. After my marriage both of my kids are not big fan of Indian Sweets. Everytime they want me to try out something new Savory (esp murukkus). So I seldom do any sweet. So I have to find opportunities to tryout something like this. there is no better occasion than Diwali / Deepavali

I have posted Besan Foxtail Ladoo / Besan thinnai ladoo. I wanted to try simple Besan ladoo. This is one of the best recipe using besan flour.This is perfect to satisfy your sweet cravings in no time. This is also suitable for last min festive preparation. All the ingredients should be easily available at home. My mum makes the ready made mix with all the ingredients except Ghee. When you need it you just add ghee to make. She uses dry roasted dhal freshly grinded mills. That gives a nice taste too

Any new version of murukku will tempt me to try immediately. I saw this version at Jey's space for this Diwali. So I bookmarked it. I have posted murukku with urad dal flour. Or with Roasted gram dal flour or Moong dal flour. But so far Bengal gram dhal flour or mix of lentil flours are not something I have tasted before. I was tempted by ingredients and mix of it. So I have decided to give it a try. I have given it to Mill to make powder (Mavvu). I felt the flour was not so fine so Wondering how it will turn out. But it came out extremely good. I have made this in few batches so you can see I have tried all kind of different shapes. My kids loved every version of it.

Adhirasam Recipe with Jaggery - Easy Diwali Recipe - Sweet Recipes - Sweets Recipe

Adhirasam is one of the specialty of my athai patti. Everytime I visit her she makes it. She always keep the dough. Whenever I ask my mum for recipe she always says the consistency (padham) is very critical. So she always asks my athai patti to make the dough. This time I told her that I wanted to do it for my blog. I did the dough with her guidance when I was in India. My mum had Mavvu arisi (raw rice which is used to make the flour) so I used it. If you don't have, use the raw rice. Also as you can see I didn't dry out in the cloth instead I just left it in the drainer for long time. It worked out too. If you aren't comfortable you can dry out on the cloth and use it. Trust me after trying out I was like it is so simple why did I ever think twice before making it. Try out and let me know

Whenever I buy store brought Sev I prefer flavoured Sev.. One of the Haldiram’s aloo bhujiya is one of my favourite. I like the flavour of Chaat masala. However When I do at home I always do plain Sev. I am big fan of Ajwan. I have posted Potato Murukku. That was my kids favourite Ragi based recipe. I have done many times. So I wanted to try Aloo Bhujia at home for quite sometime. Last time When I tried it didn't turn out to well and made Pakkoda out of it. I forgot to sieve the flours (both Besan and Rice). So This time I sieve it before I make the dough. It came out perfect. I have added Lemon juice, Mint leaves more for flavour. I strongly recommend to you to use it. Even if you are not a big fan of Mint you should try this out. The flavour is very mild in this recipe and it really tasted good

Murukku!! Our family's all time favourite snack. I started adding some flavoured murukkus only after blogging. Otherwise I do simple one. After Onion Murukku I wanted to try Garlic. But I also wanted to do spicy version with garlic. Finally I managed to do this sometime ago and it was lying in my draft for sometime. What is better opportunity to post other than this festival sesaon?. Half was finished before even I finished making it. I felt it was one of the best version of murukku. Do try it out and let me know.
