andhra Style mango Pickle - Spicy Mango Pickle Recipe - Pickle recipes

Pickles! I love almost all Indian Pickles. First time when I was in China they asked me whether I want to try cucumber pickle I said why not? When they got it I was surprised and I was double confirming about the dish few times. They promised that it was pickle and it is vegetarian. The color was white. So I thought they may be they have used green chillies or something. When I tried it was so sour!Smiley. I was asking what it was? they told me why it was pickled with vinegar.. That;s the first time I learned about vinegar which was like 20 years ago! Interesting.. From that time when I ask for pickle I ask them whether they have Indian type Smiley.


Mango - 1 medium size (when chopped I got 1.5 cup)
Garlic - 4 pods (slice it thinly)
Olive oil - 3 tablespoon
Mustard seeds - 2 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon
Fenugreek seeds - 1 teaspoon
Red chilli powder - 2 tablespoon (adjust to your spice level)
Salt to taste
Urad dhal - 1 teaspoon


Clean and chopp the mango. Keep it in a mixing bowl. Dry roast Mustard seeds (2 tablespoon) and Fenugreek seeds. Completely cool down. 

Grind to smooth powder. Heat oil. Add 1 teaspoon of mustard and let it pop. Add urad dhal and fry till brown color. Add Garlic and fry for a min.
Pour this to the chopped mango, Add mustard powder, red chilli powder, salt and mix well. Leave it aside for 1 day.
You will see oil floating on top the next day. Mix and keep aside. Stir once a day for 2 weeks. Store it in Air tight container.
