Till I started the blog we didn't celebrate this festival. After starting the blog it is just a simple pooja I am still checking on how to traditionally celebrate Karadaiyan nombu. I saw Chitra posting how to do pooja?. In Summary it is festival in which a wife prays for her husband. For more details pls refer to her post. I have posted Sweet version of Karadaiyan nombu adai, This time I would like to post the salted version. This is more or less like steamed upuma.. It is perfect for an after school snack too. You can try this with brown rice flour too. I tried with store brought rice flour. Happy Karadaiyan Nombu!

Rice flour / idiyappam flour - 1 cup
Water - 2 cup
Curry leaves - 10
Salt to taste
Oil - 2 teaspoon + 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
Green chillies - 2 (finely chopped)
Asafoetida - a pinch
Cowpeas / black eye peas - karamani - 2 tablespoon
Grated Coconut - 2 tablespoon


Dry roast Karamani and soak it in water for 30 mins
Cook it with required salt I have cooked it using pressure cooker till 3 whistle. Drain extra water. Keep it aside. Heat pan with 2 teaspoon of oil. Add mustard seeds and let it pop. Add asafoetida, Curry leaves and green chillies. Fry for 10 Sec
Add cooked cowpea, coconut and fry for another 1 min. Add 2 cup of water, required salt. Let it boil
Add idiyappam flour / rice flour.  Mix well without any lumps
Cook till it is not sticky.Let it cool down and make a lemon size balls. 
Apply oil to your plam and flatten the rice balls make a hole in the middle.Arrange it in greased idli plate. 
Steam it for 10- 12 mins.
Pray to the god and enjoy it
