Varagu Kanji - Kodo millet Kanji - Healthy breakfast recipe - Millet recipes

Millets are good for health. It has lot of vitamins and minerals. I find this Kanji gives good alternate option for breakfast / brunch from bread, oats etc.. I prefer it with buttermilk than milk. If you prefer you can replace the buttermilk with boiled milk. This keeps you filled for long time. So definitely good for dieting days. I have tried this with both Kodo millet (Varagu) / Barnyard millet (Kuthiraivali). This post is using Varagu

Varagu Rice - 1/2 cup
Buttermilk - 2 cups
Water - 1.5 cup
Salt to taste
Curry leaves - 10
Pepper powder - 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to your spice level)
Green chillies - 1 (slit)
Garlic  - 4 -5 (I prefer it put more but it is completely optional to you)


Wash varagu arisi. Cook the rice with water, garlic, green chillies, Curry leaves, pepper powder and salt. I have cooked in pressure cooker till 4 whistle. Mash it well. 
Mix in butter milk. Mix well. Add hot water if required.
I had this with Mor milagai.. It is really so refreshing

    1. Yes Jothi you can. Just soak Kambu / Bajra Millet for 2 hrs. Drain it. Run it in blender to break it. and then use it. It will give better texture
