Oats Butter Milk Porridge (Buttermilk Oats)


 I love seasoned buttermilk. Before marriage I don't take milk or plain yogurt. So my mum always made buttermilk (that's mother's love). However after marriage since my husband is not a big fan of buttermilk I seldom do it. Normally I eat oats for breakfast by cooking it plain with milk or with banana or apple. Few years back when my mum visited me she mad buttermilk Oats for the breakfast and it tasted very nice. Hope you will enjoy too
Ingredients:
Oats - 4 tablespoon
Buttermilk - 2Cups (Add  ~3cups water. I like my porridge watery. I have used store brought buttermilk. You can make it from yogurt by mixing it)
Curry Leaves - 1 tablespoon (finely chopped)
Coriander Leaves - 1 tablespoon (Finely chopped)
Ginger -1 teaspoon (Finely Chopped)
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Bengal Gram dhal - 1 tablespoon
Urad Dhal - 1 tablespoon ( I like the dhal. If you are not a big fan just reduce it by half)
Green Chillies - 1 Finely Chopped
Salt to taste
More Millagai (Chilli Soaked in buttermilk.You can get it in Indian grocery shops) (Optional) - 6-9
Water - 1.5 cup
Oil - 3 teaspoon (if u r not using more millagai 1 teaspoon is enough)


Method:


Mix Curry leaves, Coriander leaves, ginger, green chillies and salt to buttermilk and keep it aside
Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a kada and when the oil is hot add mustard seeds, when it start to pop add urad dhal, bengal gram dhal and fry till it is brown.  Add it to buttermilk
Heat the rest of the oil in the same kada fry more millagai till it is crispy. It will take about 3 mins in medium flame. Keep it aside
Heat the water in a vessel when its boiling add oats. When it is cooked add butter milk and boil it for 2 mins. Add buttermilk millagai and mix well.
Serve hot or you can serve it chilled also
