Chow Chow (chayote) Poriyal

This week for some reason from the time I got up from bed I was so lazy lazy enough even to go about doing regular weekend chores (groceries and vegetable shopping) and late afternoon reality settles in if I don't go now nothing for this whole week.. Normally after 10 / 11 AM I seldom get stuff in wet markets.. So I have decided combine the Groceries and vegetable shopping into one (meaning I need to buy vegetables that are available in super market) Chow Chow is something you get it freely in Singapore. I brought chow chow, and other vegetables and lasted barely for entire week... 

Chow Chow (chayote) - 2 medium
Garlic - 5-7 pods (Finely Chopped)
Onion - 15 small onion (Finely chopped)
Fennel seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Bengal gram dhal - 1 tablespoon
Mustard seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Urad dhal - 1 teaspoon
Red chilli - 1 break into two
Curry leaves - 10
Oil - 2 teaspoon


Heat the Kada and dry roast Fennel seeds. Keep it aside
In the same kada dry roast  bengal gram dhal and add to Fennel seeds.Once cool down ground
Scrape the outer skin and cut the chow chow into 1/2 inch cube. Pressure cook it till it is 1/2 cooked (if not in pressure cooker just put in kada with water and salt and cook it)
Heat the oil in the kada add mustard seeds when it start to splutter add urad dhal, chilli, curry leaves fry till dhal is brown in color
Add garlic and onion and fry till onion is soft
Add Cooked chow chow, turmeric powder, chilli powder and mix it well fry for 1 min
Add  Fennel seed powder,bengal gram powder and mix it well cook till chow chow is fully cooked

Switch it off and serve with rice or chappathi.
