Oats Idli

I used to do the Oats idli by normal way of grinding idli (3 cups of rice, 2 cups of rolled oats and 1 cup of urad dhal). But it is not a famous dish at home. So Stopped doing Oats idli for a while. Other day when I was talking to my sister she was saying my cousin does it well. So I called my cousin to get recipe. After couple of failed attempt (sticky once, doesn't get cooked even after 30 mins of steaming) today it came out pretty good. I have used creamy and smooth version of Oats. Today I used quick cooking oats. Good news is kids love it (my husband is not so excited about it :-))

Oats - 1 Cup
Rawa – 1 cup
Curd – 2 cups
Salt - 1 teaspoon or as per taste
Eno Fruit Salt (Regular) - 1/2 teaspoon
Oil - 4 to 5 teaspoons

Mustard - 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dhal - 1 teaspoon
Bengal gram dhal - 1 teaspoon
Pepper and Jeera - Crushed coarsely 1 teaspoon
Green chillies - 2 to 3
Fresh ginger - a small piece chopped finely
Cashewnuts - few (Optional)

Heat Kada dry roast Pepper and Jeera. Keep it aside
In same kadai, put the oil and when it is hot add mustard, urad dhal, bengal gram dhal, Green chillies and fry till the dhals become light brown
Then add oats and rawa to the seasoning and fry for few seconds or till it is hot to touch. Add Ginger
Crush Pepper and Jeera coarsely and add to the oats/Rawa
Cool it and add salt.
Add beaten curd and soak for only 5 minutes.
Put the fruit salt on top of the idli batter and pour one tablespoon water on the fruit salt. Then mix well.
Add this to the mixture.  If necessary add little water and make the batter like idli batter.
Pour water in the idli cooker and bring to boil. Grease idli plate and pour the idli batter and steam cook it for 8 to 10 minutes (till it is cooked). It takes more time to get it cook compared to normal idli
