Bisibele Bath

I am big fan of hot bisibele bath. Bisibela is a famous dish in Karnataka. My mum used to do it well and one of her favourite too. I used to do it from scratch.  However once I was in India and brought Udupi Ruchi powder. And they prefer bisibele bath made from this masala. Kids and my husband gave me double thumbs up for this. so from there I am doing with this masala powder only (It saves time and work for me too)


Rice - 1 cup
Toor (Thuar) Dhal - 1/2 Cup
Tamarind - small lemon sized ball
Small onions -15
Beans - 5 (Slice into 1 inch pieces)
Carrot - 1 (Slice into 1 inch pieces)
Tomato - 1

Brinjal - 1
Bisibele Bath Powder - 1 to 11/2 half tablespoon(Adjust to ur taste)
Salt to taste
Curry leaves - 1 string
Mustard -1/4 teaspoon
Urad Dhal - 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida - pinch
Oil - 1 tablespoon
Ghee - 2 teaspoon
Cashew nut - 1 tablespoon (optional)

Heat 1 teaspoon of Ghee and fry Cashew nut and keep it aside
Half cook the Dhal in pressure cooker  and open the cooker and add carrot, beans to the cooker and cook it

Heat a tablespoon of oil and when it is hot add mustard seeds
When started to splutter add  asafoetida, curry leaves and Urad Dhal fry till dhal is brown
Add Onion sauté till it they become transparent. Add Tomato and fry for 1 min
Then add Brinjal and sauté for a few 2-3 mins.
Now add tamarind extract, needed salt and the masala powder.  And cooked Dhal & Vegetables. 
Let it boil well till the raw flavour goes and Vegetables are cooked. Add Salt. Let it boil for 5-7 mins
Just before eating, Pressure cook rice with 4 ½ cups of water for 4 whistles.  
Mash the rice. Add sambar and mix it well. Add 1 teaspoon of Ghee and Cashew nut. Mix well. serve (rice has to be bit watery)
