Ragi Roti - 2

I am so addicted to Ragi items..  Today when I opened my lunch box my colleague commented that my lunch box is mostly black in color these days .. Then only I realized Today is 3rd day (in fact all the days I packed lunch) I am having Ragi :-).

Ragi Flour - 1 Cup
Finely cut onions - 2 tablespoons
Red Chillies - 3
Oil - 2 teaspoon

Tamarind Extract - 1 1/4 cup
Powdered Jaggery -2 teaspoon (optional)
Salt per taste
Grated Cucumber - 1 table spoon
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Urad dhal - 1/2 teaspoon
Bengal gram dhal - 1 teaspoon


Heat the oil in non stick kada
Add mustard seeds and when it start to splutter add urad dhal and bengal gram dhal. Fry till it is brown
Add Red chillies and tamarind extract
Add salt and jaggery
Let the Tamarind water boil when it start to boil reduce the flame and put Ragi flour and mix it well. cook it for 7 mins (alternatively insert the laddle in the middle before putting the flour)
Switch it off. Add Cucumber, Onion to the flour. Mix the flour quickly. When it is ok to use hand use hand and knead it well to make the dough.
Take Orange size ball and roll like chapattis. Or use plastic sheet and grease it with oil. Use hand to spread the dough it thin flat chapatti
Fry on hot tawa apply oil on both side of the chapatti and cook well
Serve with Onion Chutney
