Oats tabbouleh recipe - simple Tabouli salad recipe - Oats Recipe - Vegan Recipes - Healthy recipes

Tabbouleh is a very simple salad. I have tried it with oats, quinoa or red rice and they all taste wonderful. The flavor of parsley is really good. In this post, I am using oats (rolled oats) but, you can replace it with quinoa, red rice, steel cut oats or even brown rice. It is quite refreshing in this summer. I didn't have pomegranate so I missed it but the addition of pomegranate really enhances the nutritional value and taste of this recipe.

I wanted to try brownie cookies (brookies) for quite some time. Then, the microwave broke so I kind of forgot about it. I didn't have a microwave for a long time. I just bought one again. I really wanted to bake something, so I bought all the ingredients for a cheesecake, but after so long, I wanted to start with a simpler recipe. My son wanted something with chocolate so I decided to try out these brownie cookies. it came out pretty well. The cookies were crispy inside and soft inside.

I love to try different Vegetable biryanis. Since my son is not a big fan of spices, most of the time I use whole spices for seasoning but when grinding I use garam masala. However I have seen this biryani sometime ago in one food show. I wanted to try it out as I knew for sure it would taste good (fresh spice for sure will give a nice flavour right?) I was looking for the right time to try. . Fresh spices gave a nice flavour and aroma.

Schezwan sauce is one of my sons  favourite.  I have tried noodles and rice with that. I saw this on the menu at Madras Dosa Plaza. I wanted to try for my kids. I had Schezwan  sauce in the fridge. So I tried this and both of my kids loved it. It is perfect when you are craving for hot and spicy food. If you are not big fan of spicy food then you can a apply small amount of sauce or add cheese to it

I love to try different chaats. This one can be prepared in no time if you have chaat chutneys in the fridge (Which I always do) I have tried this with fresh or frozen corn. Both will work. However to cut your cooking time you can use frozen corn. This can be a quick snack to kids after their school. I prefer not to pack for their school snack as the Sev you use in this might become soggy. Best eaten immediately after you prepared it.

My kids love murukku...I wanted to try coconut flavour murukku. I do know pepper and garlic will go well with coconut. I have decided to fry it in coconut oil to really increase the coconut flavour. Murukku came out perfect. every one on the family loved it. It tasted closer to seepu seedai. Murukku was so white even after fully cooked. After entire batch of frying coconut oil was still clear now a days lot of article about the use of coconut  / coconut oil.. If you prefer to use normal sunflower oil for frying Chakli pls. go ahead

Muthiya is one of the snack/ breakfast I miss from the days in Trichy. We had one guju family as neighbours. I was searching for a muthiya  recipe for a while and a couple of months back we had potluck and one of my friend brought Muthiya and it was so tasty, I even packed the leftovers. She made it with Coriander leaves. I had asked her to share the recipe. Last month when My husband went to India my mum (in my Instagram)gave me all the vegetable from home garden. Chaat is one most favourite food for all in our family. Any kind of chaat will work. I saw this recipe in few blogs. I wanted to try this for our evening snack with tea. Perfect for kids lunch box too. I got this recipe from my friend who lives in Mumbai (thanks to whats app and Facebook most of our college friends connected some after ages.) I have posted Amras ki malai aloo, a recipe that everyone in the family loved. I wanted to try another side dish this year. I was thinking about a paneer-based recipe as I had store bought-paneer in the fridge which I need to finish soon. So, I tried this paneer mango or mango paneer ( whatever you want to call it ). I have used lemon juice for sourness but if you want, you can add tomatoes. Also, I have ground onion, ginger, and garlic but you can skip the grinding part. I loved it with my naan and Jeera rice, so do try out and let me know your favorite variations.

When I was asked to do 6 taste supplements to Aval Viktan I was thinking about recipes with bitter tastes. I had too many bitter gourd recipes. So I was not sure what else can be done. I tried this Sunda vathal podi. It turned out perfect esp with steamed with rice with addition of sutta ennai (oil used for frying) or with Ghee. If you are looking to include some Sundakkai for bitter taste this is really great option. This would go well with idli too

Are you one of those crazy biryani folks? After trying out Vegetarian Rendang I wanted to try out fresh turmeric recipes. Recently, I met few colleagues who were having turmeric every day (yes, just 1 teaspoon of turmeric mixed with water). They are very content with the medical benefits it brings. I was talking to them about turmeric being used in Indian food. They packed half a kg of fresh turmeric powder with them. Sweet Potato Quinoa Salad recipe - Healthy salad recipe - Starter recipe - Quinoa recipes

I wanted to try this combo for a while. This is perfect one-pot meal /salad. It is the perfect choice if you are looking for a lighter meal. I have used only 1/3 cup quinoa but you can add 1/2 cup. If you don't have quinoa you can replace it with red or brown rice or barley too. I have used orange sweet potato. You can try with other varieties, too. It is good for a kid's snack box. Adding peanuts gives crunchiness to the salad.

I have wanted to post this salad last year but I couldn't do a final picture. Since my kids love to have fresh mangoes by itself, I seldom get a chance to make other recipes with them. (They don't let me try any other dish with the precious Indian mangoes). They are okay if I use Thai or Australia but I love Indian Mangoes. But this season is different as both of them are out of the house (I get to do whatever I want to try). I made this Salsa a few times. Instead of red bell pepper (capsicum), you can use tomatoes but I prefer the bell pepper version, so in this post, I have used bell pepper.

I love mango in any form. I always look forward to the Indian summer (even though a lot of my cousins hate it because of the temperature). The only reason that I look forward to the summer is because of the delicious mango. Recently, I have been drinking matcha tea almost every day, at least when I am not traveling. I am a big fan of mango. During my school and college days, I always looked forward to the mango season. I love all types of mangoes. After moving to Singapore, I get mango almost everyday especially Thai and Australian mangoes. Even though I buy those types of mangoes and enjoy them, I still look forward to the Indian mango season. Now coming to the recipe, I have posted kache aam ki chutney, and a simple Mango chutney with coconut, however, when I was in Chennai, I have tasted this version. I loved it. So I decided to give it a try (I never get bored of mango). This one is with dal and it is perfect for idli and dosa or even with hot, steamed rice. I made it a little spicy. My mango is sour so, there was no need of any tamarind. If there is not enough sourness, you can add tamarind.

I love any yogurt base Parfait. I wanted to give Indian Twist to the Parfait. I was in a mood to have spicy one too. I came up with this idea and trust me you won't be disappointed. After ValaiPoo Biryani I left with some ValaiPoo String which was not enough to make poriyal. So I had decided to try out thogayal. Since only me and my helper was having lunch at home I had decided to give it a try. We had it with Hot rice and ghee but this would go well with idli dosa too. Do try out. You can add 1/4 teaspoon of Jaggery to it. I didn't add.

Any mango base dish will work for me. Also fruit base kheer requires less sugar compared to non fruit ones. I did it with Rice but you can do same with sago and vermicelli also. It is a very rich dessert with Mango and milk. I love to have it by itself and chilled. But if you want to serve with your favourite Vada or hot you can do it. Recent days I am turning to sorbet than ice creams. It is a good option for people who is allergic to dairy or having vegan food. You get a lot of fruity flavored sorbet in the market. It is really refreshing for this scorching heat. I had tons of lemon in the fridge so I wanted to make good use of it. Having lemon as part of your daily diet helps to balance your digestive system. During one of my holiday trips I had tasted Veg briyani and it was simple yet nice. No coconut or nuts and it was purely all the masalas (without typical Biryani masala like Cardamom, Cinnamon etc..) I bookmarked this last year season itself. This is totally new to me. It sounded so simple yet very tasty. But not sure whether it would go well with steamed hot rice or  served as a side dish. I had decided to try it out with rice so I made little watery. My sons loved it.  Served left over curry   as side to Adai (ada) it went well with that too. If you want to serve this as side make it thicker. Do try it out during this season. I have used my own masala combo while grinding not sure whether it is really traditional but it tasted good. Instead of Onion & coriander powder if you replace it with cumin seeds pls. go ahead. Also adjust Mango qty based on sourness of Mango.

After I started working in Singapore,  the first team outing was to a local Chinese restaurant. The had ordered Vegetarian Fish. Being a pure Vegetarian I was literally expecting disaster and also since it was the first outing with my colleagues I was rehearsing different ways how to say no to them. I asked a girl sitting next to me to explain the dish (politically correct) she went like this is made out of Mock fish blah blah.. I never heard about mock meats before that. So nervously waiting for my dish to arrive. Once there I tried a bit must admit the first time when I tasted I didn't like it at all. After so many years, now I started to like some of the dishes. Rendang is usually done using beef (of course there are chicken version too). Last year I visited Gokul - Vegetarian restaurant in Serangoon road (little India) we ordered few local dishes. Rendang was one of it. It tasted excellent. One of my colleagues asked me to post in my blog too. I referred few sites in net and finally I came up with my own mixes. Loved it. I have used Mock Lamb but you can try with Mock chicken or Tempeh

Our family is fond of yogurt base gravy or curry. The other day in the market I saw this beautiful ladies finger /okra but it is not enough for making ladies finger fry, I was looking for options to use Ladies finger. Zucchini is something I started to use only after moving to Singapore. I am still finding way to include that into our regular diet. I have posted quite a few recipes in my space. My 2nd son is so particular how I make my Tindora or Kovaikkai poriyal even how I cut it. It is one of his favourite vegetable. My kids love waffles for their breakfast. I tried this sweet potato waffle during my biz trip to China. I have used Pancake flour but if you want you can replace it with Wheat flour. Tell me who doesn't like Chaat. I love it in any form. It is a mix of all flavours (with Green chutney, Red chutney) However some chaat like this is new to me meaning I tasted them only after moving to Singapore. Before that eating out is an event as we use to to eat only 3-4 times a year (I mean proper meals in hotels) cakes, samosa or chaat from street side not counted into hotel outing... Those chaats that I had had were standard ones like Bhel puri, Papadi chaat , Pani puri etc.. This chaat can be served as meal itself (esp for chaat lover like me)

Mexican Stuffed bitter gourd recipe - Bitter gourd recipes - Snack recipes

I wanted to try stuffed bitter gourd for quite some time. But was scared of masala coming out when frying. I brought cooking twine (thread) recently so decide to try out. Then next question is what to use for stuffing. I thought of mexican because with loads of onion and tomatoes in it will reduce the bitterness of bitter gourd. This came out very nice. I wanted simple South Indian style Mixed vegetable biryani. One day, one of my friend brought some mixed vegetable rice. I told her that her veg biryani is nice. Then she commented it is brinji instead. Initially I thought I didn't hear full then she said it again. Later I have asked her for recipe. She send it to me. I have misplaced it. This is another mixed vegetable dish that your kids would love for sure (ok ok not all but the majority of kids) I have tried making sauce for this with oats, all purpose flour and Whole wheat flour. My kids don't prefer oats. So for this post I have done it with whole wheat flour. Of course you can try with your favourite option. I have tried both Olive oil and butter. Butter works best. My most comforting drink during tea time is cardamom tea. I love cardamom favour so much so I do have Elachi cream biscuits. Otherwise I don't take Cream biscuits. So When I visited Spice Market / spice souk in Dubai I could not resist my itch to buy Cardamom. They had different quality and it was so fresh the whole market filled with a nice aroma of fresh spices. This is my go to recipe these days whenever I make tea for myself. I wanted to bake this for my kids breakfast. This is a recipe without any egg or butter. I was not sure how the kids would like it. It turned out to be a good option for packing to school. I have added all three colours of capsicum but you can add your kids favourite vegetables. My kids are not big fans of corn so I didn't add but you can add vegetable of your choice. As you have noticed I always love to try different chutneys esp with vegetable. This provides one serving for the kids. During school days they have lunch outside and I want to make sure they get daily serving of fruits and vegetables for a day. So I try to incorporate it whichever way possible. Chutney / Dip do provide good option for that. I had some left over Platain stem / Valaithandu after making poriyal. I wanted to make chutney. To make it interesting (esp to the kids) I have decided to add peanut to it. It came out very good. I serve it with idli and I had some left over which I used to mix it with steamed rice.

I love the simple and tasty dal it is very healthy too.. Panchmel means 5 different type. So this dal is made with 5 different dals. Now a days you get mixed dal pockets you can use it if you have if not you can mix it yourself. Use equal portion of each of dal. This is very comforting dish. If you run out of vegetables but you want to make side dish for rice or roti or pulka or paratha you can try this one. For seasoning I have used Ghee/ Oil Mix. You can use either one based on your preference.

My kids love Mushroom.. This is one of the most flavourful dish which can be served as a snack or starter. I find it tastes better when it is hot. So it may not suitable for parties. I loved simple garlic, mixed Italian flavour in this dish. Whole house smelled divine. So far I have used mostly button mushroom in my recipe.. There are so many varieties. Every time I think I should try something different next time. But when I shop my hands goes to button mushroom only.. I hope sometime (soon) I get to try other variety.

Other day when I visited one of my colleague's house in Chennai she served valai poo (Arati poovu, Bhale Hoova) biryani. She told me that she has checked my blog to make sure that she cooked something new.. Before I tasted it I kind of not sure about the taste of valai poo in the biryani. But it tasted really good. Yeah you had slight "thuvarppu" in Valaipoo which gave it a nice taste. I loved it. She said she got this recipe from her Mother In Law. Her version didn't include Toor dal. But when I made it I added it to enhance nutritional value. It is good way of including a vegetable otherwise seldom liked by kids
