Eggless snickerdoodles Cookie Recipe - Cinnamon flavoured Cookie Recipe - Kids friendly recipe - Snack recipe

Myself and my husband like Cinnamon flavour. Kids do not. I had some left over German cookies so I wanted to try a small batch of eggless Snickerdoodles cookies. When I baked it the whole house was full of cinnamon flavour (I had a good aromatherapy). I referred to this page for the recipe and made small modifications according to my taste.. I had Cinnamon Sugar at home if you don't have, you mix in 1 teaspoon Cinnamon powder to 2 tablespoon sugar as you need. If you are a Cinnamon person you should try this for sure

When I came to Singapore ,in first couple of weeks, I had this Murtabak (vegetarian). It was very filling and it was made with Mushroom. Those days mushroom was not my favourite vegetable. So I felt it was an overdose of mushroom. After that I haven't tried it again. Sometime last week I tried another version with Soya chunks and I liked it. Pumpkin Puli kulambu recipe - Pumpkin puli kuzhambu recipe - Side dish for Rice

Puli kulambu is something I can have anytime. I got this white flesh pumpkin from India from my mum's backyard. I love the freshness of it. In Singapore mostly we get the orange one (my mum calls it a fruit). After making the mash pumpkin I had some left over. I had decided to try out puli kulambu with it. I am pretty sure it will taste good. Sweetness from Pumpkin, spiciness from chilli powder and puli kulambu podi really enhanced the flavour

I wanted to try this Donne biryani for the past year after tasting it at my friend's place. Normally I do rice with mixed vegetables on Sundays as I would have fresh vegetables from Sat weekly wet market visits (In Singapore you call local markets as wet market where you get vegetables and meat) This biryani doesn't require mixed vegetables and potato is good enough. So I kept postponing it. I was travelling this weekend so when I was back I had only potato at home. So I thought making this biryani. If you want you can leave onion as it is without grinding it. However I did grind it as my son is not a big fan of full onion

Paruppu podi was one of my most favourite when I was in College. After marriage it kind of faded away. Still whenever I visit my mum she makes the podi for me. I normally use it for mixing with rice. I love the combo of Mor kulambu. I add paruppu podi with used oil ( sutta ennai) to hot steaming rice. And Mor kulambu as side gravy to go with. Wow! What a perfect combo! Since My mum used to give it every time, I never got a chance to click it. This time I told her not to make any podi (powder) and just give the recipe. So here you go with Paruppu podi recipe. I have used raw Garlic. You can toast it till moisture absorbed. If you are using raw garlic. Store it in Fridge and finish it within 10 days

Pillow cake is totally new to me. The name attracted me from the first time I saw it. I had bookmarked it from Radhika's space. I wanted to do this for quite sometime. It sounded very simple and perfect for a weekend brunch / after school snack. I have done it a few times I have tried all wheat flour version first.. My kids prefer this version where I use 50% Wheat and 50% all purpose flour.  You can add your favourite chocolate chips, banana, or strawberry. This can be good snack for kids too. I have followed recipe from here except for the quantity of sugar

Mochai Sambar recipe - Field beans dal recipe - side dish for idli, dosa and Iddiyappam, Pulka

I had some Mochai left over after mochai sagu. I wanted to do some simple dal for Iddiyappam. I had some left over which I used the next day for dosa. It tasted good with both. This is quite simple to make. If you are making it for rice then increase the green chilies. I have used shallots but you can use red onions too. I didn't add Tamarind instead I had used lemon juice. You can try with tamarind too. Addition of coconut milk gave a nice flavour to the sambar so don't miss it. Perfect way to end mochai season.

I had tried this tomato puri during one of my stays in India. The spiciness from Chilli and the tanginess from Tomato makes this poori very tasty and eye catchy. My kids love Paneer. I am not a big fan of Paneer. So I do Paneer at home like once a month. However when we go out, we order one paneer dish together with Naan/ Roti. I always ask my kids about the difference between Paneer 65 and Chilli Paneer. They say Paneer 65 tastes very Indian Chilli paneer is more like Chinese.Last few times when I made Paneer Starter I ended up making Chilli Paneer. It is quite heavy. So Normally I do it with a light main course or during a long day in school for kids. However my diet program adviced me take more paneer as in fact according to that cheese is better than white flour or rice .. How true it is, is up to you.

I love to try different dosas. Normally we have tiffin varieties for dinner esp during school days. Kids has very long hours and have only dinner at home most of the time. I love any Chaat. I had tried this at my friend's place. This dish is new to me as before that I always made dry beach sundal with white peas. This gravy version was a combination of many dishes and tasted great. It is quite filling too. So you can serve this as a starter or have it as light meal by itself. With Dry peas, and dal vada this is really good for kids too. Even though chutney is optional, you should use that to get the full flavour of it. I have tried both with chutney and without chutney. When I saw a Mother's day video from Raji from RaksKitchen I remembered a similar dish I used to have from one of my best friend from college. She normally brings it with Adai. Since Raks video called for plain Rice adai / dosa, I decided to do with Rice dosa. These days Coconut is back in health trend. I have been using coconut oil for seasoning. So for this I have used coconut oil too. My mum would be surprised as she used to reserve dishes without coconut for me. I have tried many poori and I have posted a few versions of Maida Poori, Wheat Poori, Spinach Poori, Methi Poori, Beetroot Poori, Pearl Millet (kambu) Poori in my space. However When I saw this Rice poori in one of the cookery show it was totally new to me. I wanted to try it out. But I was not sure whether my kids would like it. So I was looking for right opportunities to try (yes when you have some other back up to fall to when they don't like it). Finally I tried this and they said it is kind of nice. It is very different from other poori but nice. In the cookery show they have added coriander powder, chilli powder etc.. I just added cumin seeds. It tasted nice but if you prefer to spice it up you can add your favourite masala powders.

I never thought of making Puli kulambu / Kara Kuzhambu with Sweet potato till I had tasted this in one of buffet at Chennai ITC hotel. It was a perfect blend of flavours.  I immediately added to my list of things to try. When I made it my entire family loved it. Sweet potato with Sambar powder & tamarind tasted amazing. I have used homemade sambar powder. Any curry powder will work. I have used Sesame oil for seasoning. It goes well with hot steamed rice. Orange sweet potato works well for this. Curry Leaves Butter Murukku - Curry Leaves butter Chakli - Diwali recipes

Anyone who doesn't like Chakli / Murukku esp butter murukku? I love to try different types of Murukku. / Chakli. My kids love it anytime. For this Diwali I wanted to try with either Mint or Curry leaves. I made with Curry Leaves. Loved the flavour. Kids who normally remove the curry leaves in any dish loved this one. It had very light green color too. I have added roated gram (Pottukadalai podi) but you can replace it with roasted urad dal powder too. I have used idiyappam flour.

During my childhood days getting Gulab Jamun / Indian sweet doughnut for every small achievement is given. Also for Festivals like Diwali Gulab Jamun is must too. I got to taste different versions of Gulab Jamun from our neighbours (to the point 1 month after Diwali no more Jamun) I used taste this stuffed Jamun (yes those days that's how we call it) Later I realized it is called Makkan Peda. After my marriage both of my kids are not big fan of Indian Sweets. Everytime they want me to try out something new Savory (esp murukkus). So I seldom do any sweet. I have posted Besan Foxtail Ladoo / Besan thinnai ladoo. I wanted to try simple Besan ladoo. This is one of the best recipe using besan flour.This is perfect to satisfy your sweet cravings in no time. This is also suitable for last min festive preparation. All the ingredients should be easily available at home. My mum makes the ready made mix with all the ingredients except Ghee. When you need it you just add ghee to make. Any new version of murukku will tempt me to try immediately. I saw this version at Jey's space for this Diwali. So I bookmarked it. I have posted murukku with urad dal flour. Or with Roasted gram dal flour or Moong dal flour. But so far Bengal gram dhal flour or mix of lentil flours are not something I have tasted before. I was tempted by ingredients and mix of it. So I have decided to give it a try. I have given it to Mill to make powder (Mavvu). I felt the flour was not so fine so Wondering how it will turn out. But it came out extremely good. I have made this in few batches so you can see I have tried all kind of different shapes. My kids loved every version of it.

Adhirasam is one of the specialty of my athai patti. Everytime I visit her she makes it. She always keep the dough. Whenever I ask my mum for recipe she always says the consistency (padham) is very critical. So she always asks my athai patti to make the dough. This time I told her that I wanted to do it for my blog. I did the dough with her guidance when I was in India. My mum had Mavvu arisi (raw rice which is used to make the flour) so I used it. If you don't have, use the raw rice. Also as you can see I didn't dry out in the cloth instead I just left it in the drainer for long time. It worked out too. If you aren't comfortable you can dry out on the cloth and use it. Trust me after trying out I was like it is so simple why did I ever think twice before making it. Try out and let me know

Whenever I buy store brought Sev I prefer flavoured Sev.. One of the Haldiram’s aloo bhujiya is one of my favourite. I like the flavour of Chaat masala. However When I do at home I always do plain Sev. I am big fan of Ajwan. I have posted Potato Murukku. That was my kids favourite Ragi based recipe. I have done many times. So I wanted to try Aloo Bhujia at home for quite sometime. Last time When I tried it didn't turn out to well and made Pakkoda out of it. I forgot to sieve the flours (both Besan and Rice). So This time I sieve it before I make the dough. It came out perfect. I have added Lemon juice, Mint leaves more for flavour. I strongly recommend to you to use it. Even if you are not a big fan of Mint you should try this out. The flavour is very mild in this recipe and it really tasted good

I love to try different one pot meals. Normally my kids have a full lunch at home only during weekend and they don't like to have sambar on both days. So normally Sunday is for one pot measl. Chettinad is famous for it's unique dishes in which fresh spices are normally used to make dishes. When you add freshly roasted spices it gives a nice aroma and taste to the dish.  Onion raita or cucumber raita goes well with this biryani. I have added Red chilies when making the masala powder. I have posted another version using grinder . Also I wanted to try without Poha. I have tried this version a couple of times before. But first time it turned little sticky. 2nd time was not able to take final shot. Finally I can finish the entire post after almost 1 year. This is very healthy recipe and suitable for diabetic people also. If you are looking no rice recipe don't look further try this recipe. I made dosa with same batter next day it came out well. You don't need grinder to make this idli. You can make it using  mixie or blender. It is quite a simple recipe

I love to try different one pot meals / Biryani. My helper was talking about this biryani for quite sometime. But I was not sure and recently I saw this post in some blogs. Yakhni means Soup / stock. Cooking Rice and vegetables in spiced yakhni really gives nice tasty biryani. It is quite simple even bachelors can try it out. Perfect for lazy weekends or party rice. Since it is less masala you can easily pair with any side dish or raita. My helper told me normally this is done with chicken. I don't cook Non veg at home. So I decided to do it with Vegetables. I didn't add vegetables while cooking soup. As I wanted Vegetable to be more crispy not over cooked. But if you want you can add at the time you make soup and take it and use it for rice.

I wanted to try this gluten free chickpea chocolate cake for quite sometime. Last time when I tried I couldn't take the pictures. Also the cake was more gooey. This cake is so rich in protein and perfect for a breakfast meal too. I have seen chickpea cakes in many blogs. I have followed it from here. I have used brown sugar. Recently we are in this sweet corn mania. Most of the time either I make Corn sundal or corn dosa.  The other day I wanted to make chapathi but I didn't have any vegetable in the fridge. So I decided to try Corn and Potato combo. For this dish I have used coconut oil. It gave a rich and unique flavour to the dish. With whole spices used for seasoning the taste was pretty good. I wanted to try cheese sticks for quite some time. It is a very simple snack / finger food. Not sure why take so long to try. Glad I managed to do it as my kids loved it. When I saw Mixed millet rawa / rava I was so excited. I wanted to try upma with that. However the other day I wanted to do some snacks and was craving for kozhukattai. So I waned to try this mixed millet pidi kolukattai. It tasted so good with Coconut chutney and everyone in the family loved it. Since it is a mix of all the millets the blend of all the tastes (sweetness from Samai, Nutty flavour from Bajra (Pearl millet), flavour from finger millet (ragi / Kelvaragu) ) was really amazing. Kolukattai is a traditional dish made during Ganesh chaturthi / vinayagar chaturthi. During my school days my mum does it only during Ganesha chaturthi. These days you get it almost every day. I like both savory and sweet ones esp the ones sweetened with jaggery. The shop at Bay area near my Chennai office, has different types of Kolukattai. Bengal gram stuffing (it is a more traditional one) is my most favourite. I normally do it with iddiyappam flour but now days you get kolukattai flour too. You can try either one.

It was so tasty. Other day I was looking to make after school snacks for my kids who came home little earlier than normal time. As this pooranam doesn't require any soaking or cooking I decided to do it. It is indeed quick and simple yet healthy snack. Do try it out. You can make this dry Pooranam during weekend and keep it in air tight container.

Like I mentioned in many of my posts, Kesari  is one of the sweets that comes to my mind when I plan for any Naivedyam as that is one dish which gets consumed without any fuss in my household. So after seeing this in many blogs I decided to try this. I have used raw sugar to make this but you can use white sugar if needed. I have followed my basic Kesari recipe in which I use 1/2 water 1/2 boiled milk for making Kesari. It came out pretty good. My husband was pleasantly surprised

Aval Ladoo is a very easy sweet which can be made for an offering for god (neivedhyam). Recipes like this is a boon for working women like me esp if the festival falls during a weekday. This Ladoo / Laddu can be done with both Jaggery and Sugar. I have used Jaggery as I love the taste of Jaggery. But you can use Sugar too. If you are using sugar replace Jagger with sugar For below measurement u can use 1/2 cup. I had Red aval so I have used Red but you can use White too

Tofu is a must in our household at least twice a week. My kids prefer some snacks with it instead of gravy. So I mostly make snacks with it. Last week when I was in India I had this cutlet at one of the near by restaurants. I thought it would be full of potatoes. But I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. I went with my niece and initially i had ordered only 1 to try out but ended up more packing home. So I added it to my list to try out. In that it had peas but I have decided to try out with chick peas as my 2nd one is not a big fan of Peas. But you can use peas in place of chickpeas / Channa. I love Thai Recipes. Recently my first son also started liking Thai recipes. Normally my sis buys vegetarian red curry paste from US for me. However I wanted to try this Yellow curry from scratch. I searched thro' net. I have tried based on what I had and my preference. Our family is not a big fan of raw coriander seeds so I had used powder. If you don't have Red bird eye fresh chillies use dry red chillies. If you are using dried one soak it hot water for 30 mins before using it. I had this with rice as well as with Chapathi. Both went well. I have used homemade coconut milk. You can use canned coconut milk too
