Mango charu (Mango rasam) is a real treat for mango lovers like me. I love anything with Mango whether it is be raw mango or ripened one. So this time of the year is a real treat for me. Even though in Singapore you get mango almost all days I prefer this Indian Mango season and the types you get it during this period. My mum has one mango tree & and during this season I do get some from her. Original recipe from her doesn't require any dal (toor dal) but I wanted to add 1 tablespoon of cooked dal and dal water. It came out very nice. I have roasted cumin, pepper and garlic in ghee. But you can dry roast it too

I love green smoothie. I have that for my breakfast for most of the days. I have tried with Spinach as well as Kale. Rest of the ingredients are based on what is available. Now mangoes are in season so I tried with Mango and coconut milk. I prefer coconut milk or young coconut than milk. I feel it goes well.  This is perfect for on the go meals. Quite filling too. Maybe for the first 2 days you find it tough but once you get used to it you will love it.

Do you love flavours? Then you should try this sweet, spicy paratha recipes. I have used imampasanth so you see the color of mango pulp is light yellow if you use alphonso mangoes it will give nice yellow color to the dish. I have tried with ginger and without ginger. I prefer with ginger but my kids prefer without ginger.. This post is without ginger. but you can add if you like ginger taste. Do try out before the season ends. I can have it as it is or with simple yogurt. I made it as a triangular paratha. You can do it as you prefer

I have been baking my Baja (Pearl Millet) Chocolate Cake  quite often as I love the nutty flavour in it. I thought of trying Normal bake with it. I was trying to do orange cake for quite sometime. So I have decided to try this out with Bajra. Unlike chocolate cake I did 50% All purpose flour and 50% bajra (Kambu) flour as I was not sure how it would turnout if I use full Bajra flour. This came out pretty good. Sugar I have used powdered raw sugar. Do give it a try and let me know how it turns out.

In the office, we were talking about moringa leaves and one of my friend referred to this blog for the soup recipe. It is more of a Non veg recipe regardless I thought the combo would work as Murungai keerai (little bitter if grinded) and sweetness from sweet corn would complement each other. I decided to try it out for my afternoon one pot meal soup. It came out pretty good. I decided to make Corn milk and add that to the soup. Perfect combo it is a keep recipe for sure.

Before marriage Cucumber is only for Raita. Those days there was no salad except when we visited restaurants (Those days Restaurant visit is like Picnic and need to really plan for at least a day). After marriage I had a few friends / Colleagues who were from Bangalore they do rice/ side dish with Cucumber even Sambar (yellow one). This rice is very simple, light and refreshing. The dish also perfect for summer. I made it with brown rice as well as basmati rice as both tastes good. I felt Brown rice version was more light and of course healthier. So I have decided to post it with brown rice.

I got introduced to Momos after moving to Singapore. My Chinese colleagues really love momos from this Indo Chinese restaurant. After my kids started to attend school they got used to Chinese food. Momos is one their favourite dishes. I normally make Veg momos / vegetable momos  and fried momos. However both are with all purpose flour cover. However recently I have started using wheat flour. It came out good too. So for this recipe I have used Wheat flour. you can try out all purpose flour. Paneer is every kid's favourite so you can do this as an after school snack or as a teatime snack for weekends or holidays.

I loved the ingredients in this recipe when I saw it in one of cooking programmes, I decided to replace  rice with some millet. I had Samai (Little Millet) so I have decided to use that. It is perfect for breakfast. There is a of lot benefits to this dish. It is cools down your body so it is good to have this at least couple of time if not once a week. It also gives you good break to normal south Indian food. This is perfect for pregnant ladies and those who have mouth ulcers. If you are not a big fan of coconut milk or avoiding coconuts, use normal milk. I used Sprouted Fenugreek seeds in this Recipe if you don't have it use normal Fenugreek (vendhayam)

Masoor Pulav - Veg Red Lentil Pilaf - One pot meal - Rice recipes

I love to try one pot meals esp for weekends. My kids love it. Dal / Lentil / Whole dal based rice are big hits with our family. For me it is also an easy way to provide a balanced meal. Here are few you can refer to Chana dal Pulav, Chickpeas cabbage fried rice, sprouted chickpeas rice, Chickpea radish rice, Channa rice/chickpea rice. This time I wanted to try something real quick yet very healthy. The only thing about making these dal pulav / rice is that you need to remember to soak the dals. Sometimes I do forget and need to look for alternatives. May be I should try doing like what my sis does. Plan for the week and soak the dals together, cook it and freeze it. This might be very handy during busy weekdays (you can use it in rice, side for roti or even as sundal). I have followed recipe from here with slight modification

How I got introduced to Zucchini is a story. I got to introduced to this vegetable after few years in Singapore. When I brought this vegetable for first time I thought it is cucumber in fact till I started eating to check the bitterness of cucumber. It tasted so different later I checked online to check what it is. It is not a regular vegetable at our home.However these days I try to include as much as possible. I bake this Zucchini muffin  more often. Other day I had this sandwich which is toasted with mayonnaise which is quite new. So I wanted to try it out. It came out very nice and rich!

Ragi is one of my most favourite millets. I use Ragi millet at least on alternate days. I have tried different mixes and I find that the 1/2 and 1/2 mix works the best. So This recipe is using 1/2 portion of Wheat and 1/2 portion of Ragi flour. Only recently my kids started taking Wheat flour based poori. Before this they used to take only Maida (All purpose flour) poori. This version of Ragi poori is something my kids also loved

I love crunchy pakora esp Onion. Since my 1st son doesn't eat any onion, (without grinding) I seldom do onion Pakora. The other time I tasted Valaipoo Pakkoda at my friends place and it tasted almost same as onion (even though not exactly same. I kind of liked it) I wanted to try it out. I tried it once sometime ago and it tasted bitter. So I called her after a long time and asked about it. She said that I should use young flower to get nice a taste. So this week when I visited Serangoon I saw fresh Valaipoo. I bought it without any hesitation. It came out pretty good. So make sure you use the young and Fresh Plantain flower / Valaipoo.

When I saw this recipe on the internet / in few blogs it sounded more like Pizza pockets or Naan with yeast. I am a little vary of using Yeast in my recipes. I had a couple of total flops with yeast esp with dry yeast. Most of the time I buy bottle of yeast and leave it without use for a while and it dies... Now we started to get small sachets of yeast so it is a very convenient way of using it. Since kids are at home I wanted to try this for their evening snack. I used 50% whole wheat and 50% maida (all purpose flour). You can use full all purpose flour. Also you can add more vegetables like Broccoli, Tomatoes etc...

Yet another Vegetable dosa.. This dosa is really with a mix of flavour. I love to try different biryanis. I have tried this Jackfruit seeds vegeable biryani last season but I couldn't make final pic. I want to try this during this season. This is perfect blend of spices and I have used store bought garam masala but you prefer to make your biryani masala you can do it by dry roasting Cinnamon - 1 inch, cloves- 3, Nutmug - 1/8 teaspoon, Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon, Cardamom - 3, Fennel seeds - 1/4 teaspoon. Nongu is one of our childhood summer treat. Not just the fruits even the outer shell from which we make toy "vandi" and ride it with all my cousins. Late Apr / May we are either busy or not much of public holidays we seldom visit India during the season. Once I found this in Little India but the fruit was not young and not the same taste as what I used to have. So I stopped buying from here. In the last couple of year I got to visit India during the season. So I enjoyed at least once or twice from the roadside shop. Amazing! Perfect for summer. I brought these from India and made milk the next day (yeah took all the pain to pack it with ice cubes & in cooler bag). It was really good and refreshing for the summer!

I normally make Vegetable kothu parotta with left over parotta or chapathi. My friend makes Paneer Kothu parotta which tastes a bit different. I have tried a couple of times for my guests. Jack fruit seeds are in season. Last week when I was in India, I saw jack fruits in the daily morning hotel breakfast. When I checked outside I realized it is in season now. So I had the seeds in a fruit shop. They kept about 1 kg seeds. Since the seeds is quite fresh it got cooked fast. Otherwise cook it with turmeric powder and salt before adding it to kulambu. It is a simple yet very flavourful gravy / Kuzhambu. I didn't add coconut but if you prefer you can add coconut milk while adding jaggery.

I tasted milk cake when I was in Brazil and it was so soft that I w pretty sure it had egg. I do eat cake and chocolate with egg but not too much egg. Summer around the corner. It is so hot outside. You can see all summer treats everywhere. Watermelon is everywhere. I tried this last season i however couldn't get the final picture. I love this kootu a lot. However rest of the family prefers poriyal. Since I get this vegetable only if I go to Serangoon road (Little India ) I ended up making family favourite most of the time. This time the banana stem was nicer so I ended up buying more than usual. So when I cooked myself lunch I made this. Really enjoyed this with Roti / chapathi and oats porridge. It is very simple to make (most of the cooking time goes for preparing the thandu). It is perfect for this hot summer period too.

During my college days I loved  vegetable cutlet. The best one was from the roadside push cart one near my home. He sold it from 5 PM and we used to wait for the time and rush to buy. It was the  most wanted after school snack for myself and my sisters. These days that push cart is no more I really miss that. My kids love the tikkis or cutlets. I love Matcha. During my last trip to Bali I tasted Matcha yogurt shake. Even though it was a bit sweet I really enjoyed it. It was so hot that afternoon and it was so refreshing. I wanted to try sweet paratha for quite sometime. I had sweet-less Koya (store bought) in the fridge. I wanted to try something which can be mildly sweetened. I was not sure whether kids would like it. So I have added less sugar so the paratha has more of milk taste than sweet. But if you prefer it to be sweeter you can add more sugar. I have used fresh coconut in this recipe but you can try with dry coconut too. This is perfect for after school kids or as an evening snack.

One of my colleague used to bring wonderful banana cake I have tried once I didn't like the flavour. After that I never tried most of the time I will freeze over ripe banana and add it to smoothie. Whenever we go to Subway my kids order Teriyaki chicken sandwich (yes they are not vegetarian. However I don't cook Non - veg at home) Last time during our holiday trip I had  tasted Teriyaki tofu. Fruit chaat - Simple healthy snack

I saw this recipe at stay foodish. It was very tempting.. I tried immediately. It is a really healthy snack and super yummy chaat. This can be very good for kid's lunch box or snack box. This is definitely a good alternative to plain fruit snack. Your picky eaters might like this!

I had a bunch of Murungai keerai / Moringa leaves in the fridge. My kids wanted Paneer gravy for dinner to go with Chapathi / roti / Naan. Instead of plain Paneer recipe I wanted to try Moong Paneer But my son wanted it with some green leafy vegetable. I had only Drumstick leaves in the fridge. I told them that's what I am going to try. I was crossing my finger as not sure about the taste (So worried that I decided to do it a little early for dinner so that I can come up with another alternative if it didn't turn up good. And for the first time I made it i didn't even bother to take pics. It came out extremely well After that I did it a few times and a couple of time when I was having some get together with friends. I made this rich and creamy jackfruit seeds korma. It went well with chapathi. Richness came from cashew and melon seeds. I wanted make it as white korma but addition of tomatoes changed the color. So if you prefer to have full white skip tomaotes. Jack fruit seeds alone gave nice taste. But you can do it with Mixed vegetables too. If you are adding vegetables reduce jackfruit seeds quantity. This is definitely must to try during this jackfruit season.

Carrot halwa is one of my husband favourite. So wanted to try other fruit or vegetable base halwa.  I wanted to try this papaya halwa for quite sometime however not very sure about he flavour of it as papaya has it's unique flavour and some people quite put off by it. Other day I brought papaya and my hubby brought another one (I told him a week ago Sigh) both are quite ripen cannot keep for long. So I have decided to try out this sweet. I love Raw Mango. Even though you get raw mango almost all year along these days the ones you get it during season (summer) is really amazing.. Esp I love the variety we get from my grand ma little garden. I was told that tree is there for past 60 over years (yes ... the fruit is tasted thro' 5 generations) My grandma used to make a sweet mango sambar which I like esp the mango after a day. Are you bored with regular upma (rava or rice)? I saw this mixed millet rava in the shop. When I opened it I thought the rava was a bit small so I was not sure whether it was for Kanji or upma. I had decided to give it a try for upma. I have followed the same recipe as rava upma. I have added vegetables to make it a one pot meal. If I make certain millet (Pearl and ragi in upma form) alone my hubby would complain. But this one no problem at all. I love the nutty taste in it. I had this for breakfast and it kept me full till lunch.Do try it out if you can get this mixed millet rava.

I normally buy jack fruit at least once a week. I dry the seeds and collect it. Since we had some guest for the last couple of weeks, I ended up buying more Jackfruits. So I had quite a bit of seeds. I wanted to do the kara poriyal with that. I wanted to do something I have tasted a long time ago at my friends house back in India. I had some left over coconut thogaiyal in the fridge. Last time when I visited my sis she had made this kanji / porridge. I loved every bit of it. Somehow I felt this version reduces the Oats' stickiness. It goes well with pickle or coconut thogayal or Paruppu thogayal. It is very filling. I always make this a little thicker and have it with Thogayal. you can make it thick also

Dal Dhokli Recipe - Healthy one pot meal - Vegan side dish - No Onion, Garlic dal

Dal dhokli, varan phal, or chakolya is a Gujarati / Maharashtrian dish. I tasted this during my college days since my sister's close friend is from Gujarat. So we got to enjoy their dishes. This is perfect for breakfast / brunch or as an after school snack. It is quite filling. It is a fairly simple dish except for the part of adding Dhoklis at right time / right temperature. Normally their dishes would have a tinge of sweetness but I didn't add Jaggery also I have added garam masala instead of whole spices. You can use 2 bay leaves, cloves 2, Cinnamon 1 inch. Since my kids prefer not to have whole spices in their mouth I have used garam masala. It is also a no garlic, onion and ginger recipe

Banarasi Kachori and raswale aloo Recipe - Breakfast Recipe - Kids special

I have bookmarked from Nalini's space for a long time. I forgot about it. When I watched this in Venkatesh bhat show decided to try it out. Since my kids love poori and they have moved avay from Maida Poori. they are more open to try different flavours and with Wheat. I love the urad dhal flavour in Kachoris. It give nice aroma to the food. It was the reason for me to book mark it. I add Roasted Urad dhal flour when making puri for chaats. My kids love it. So I am pretty sure kids would love this combo too except for the ajwan flavour in it. It is quite rare in my home to use Ajwan in cooking. When I tried it everyone loved the combo! Gravy is also without onion, Garlic and tomatoes

During my college days I was so addicted fresh milk sweets.. After sometime the craze faded.. Once in a while I take fresh milk sweets when I visit my favourite mittai shops in India.. If the milk sweets are fresh the taste is really divine. I wanted to try this for a while .. Somehow keep missing milk powder in my shopping list.. Finally I managed to get milk powder. So here I am with the recipe. This is very simple sweet with just 5 ingredients. You can replace Saffron with Cardamom powder. Also if condensed milk sweet is not enough you can add sugar to taste

Roasted Carrot Recipe - Snack or Side dish recipe - Roasted Rainbow Carrot

I recently started ordering my vegetables from an online portal. This Rainbow carrot is their speciality. I wanted to try this roasted carrot (esp baby ones which are very attractive) after I saw it in foodgawker. After a couple of time finally I made it. It is really very tasty. I have added a teaspoon of garlic butter which I think made a big difference. If you are very health conscious you can skip it but I recommend strongly. The mixed carrots I got had mostly orange and yellow carrot. When I roasted that in microwave the whole house smelled lke the garlic flavour. Addition of butter enhanced it. This dish is very simple and easy to put together.

Grilled Tofu, avocado Sandwich Recipe - Bread Recipes - Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch Recipes

I started eating Tofu when I moved into Singapore. How I started is a story. When I moved in, (Seems very long) I had one neighbor who was born and brought up in Singapore. He helped me to get used to the local Singapore Market. So we used to go for the vegetable marketing at the wet market. And she used to buy a lot of Tofu base stuff and of course she got really surprised that I don't eat meat or Egg. She repeatedly asked me not even one meal or not even few days in a week etc.. After that she told me Tofu is good for health esp for Vegetarian. Since I didn't even know what it was I never bought it for almost 2-3 years. After I started working, when we go out with colleagues if I am there they accommodate my dietary requirement most cases. Almost 6 month later they asked me whether I have tried any Chinesse vegetarian dishes like mock meat and Tofu etc.. I told them no. So they brought me to chinese restaurant and when the dish arrived I felt my heart beat. The first dish I tried was Crispy tofu coated with Cornflakes. I kind of liked it. So from there onwards I started to include tofu as part of diet once kids started going to school .Tofu became regular at our house hold. I have been doing this tofu sandwich all the time but most of the time during week days. I wanted to do a blog post on this all the time. Never got a chance. I had a few days off this week and I was at home so I decided to have a good brunch so I had this Sandwich as I had all the ingredients.

This is one of my Sister favourite. I wanted to post this for a while.. I have to find a occasion to make sweets. As my whole family not found of sweets. Diwali is really perfect to try out sweets. I was looking for some interesting yet very mild sweet to be distributed to my Gym friends during this festive sessions. Somasi came to my mind as they like samaosa. Outer crispy layer and milder sweet stuffing inside perfect combo. So I have decided to give it a try. They really liked it. So without further delay let's move to the recipe.

puli kuzhambhu with dry coconut recipe - puli kulambu with kopparai thengai recipe - Sambar or kuzhambhu Recipes

After Dabeli masala I left with some Dry coconuts. I was looking for ways to use it. I didn't want to try any Chutney as I can taste oil in dry coconut. So I thought of Puli kulambu. I didn't have any vegetables which is suitable for Puli kulambu so I added onion and garlic but you can add any of your favourite vegetable. Also I have used Coconut oil for seasoning instead of normal Gingerly oil. It tasted diff and nice too. Do try this slight variation and enjoy
