I had this chat item during my stay in Chennai. I have tasted diff masala. This happend 6-8 months ago. After that every time when my mum ask for list of things to buy for my India trip this masala will always be there. But couldn't find it in Trichy or Chennai. I asked few of my north Indian colleagues but every time the result is negative. I have decided to try out masala powder at home. Originally I have noted down from Priti's indiankhana. When was planning for making the masala I saw this from Binjal space. In the end I made my own mix based on spices I had. It came out so nice stay tuned for for Dabeli chatPin It Now!

Ragi Ribbon Pakoda - Ragi Ola Pakoda - Diwali snacks - Kids friendly recipe - Diwali Savoury recipe - Tea time snack recipes
I love Ragi in any form .. I have posted Ragi murukku. Ribbon pakoda is one of most favourite savoury snack. It has many different name too (Ola pakoda, Rottu pakoda, Oatu pakoda, Ribbon tape etc..). My mum does it using different laddle meant for it. I normally use muruku / Chakli press. It is easiest way to feed the millet to anyone who is not taking it otherwise.. This turned out so crispy and addictive. I have added butter as my kids love the texture of snacks with butter. you can add hot oil in the place of butter too. Try this out for this Diwali and enjoy millet base snackPin It Now!

So Decided to try both. Basically Suryakala is in round shape and chandrakala is in half crescent (moon) shape. You can try both for this diwali and let me know the resultPin It Now!
Maida Burfi is one of the most easy sweet you can make for this Diwali / festive season. I must admit my family is not a big fan of sweets. So every time when I make sweet I really make in small quantity. However they are very big fan of food made up all purpose flour. So When I tried this I was thinking they might like this.. As I thought they kind of like it. This sweet can be made with Ingredients which is very easily available at home. If you want to make in larger qty you can use 1: 2: 1 (1 part Flour, 2 part sugar, 1 part ghee)Pin It Now!
Murukku!! Our family's all time favourite snack. My kids have the habit of having snacks with lunch esp on weekends. They need some crunchy side dish even if you have 2 vegetables. So Whenever they have school break I make Murukku.. Since My first son doesn't like Onion I try to sneak it in his favourite dish. I wanted to try this Onion / Shallots murukku for quite sometime. But was hesitating because of my first son (as it is his least favourite dish) finally I made this. To make it more attractive I made cute little bite size murukku.Pin It Now!

Tandoori Roti recipe - Homemade Tandoori roti recipe - Stove top tandoori roti recipe - Tandoori roti without yeast
After posting few Naan recipes Kashmiri Naan, Butter Naan, Garlic Naan I wanted to try Tandoori roti. It is a healthier option than Naan because it is made with whole wheat flour. I have seen recipes with combination of wheat flour and all purpose flour. But I have decided to use only whole wheat. I was not sure it would be as good as Naan because I don't use yeast and it is done on stove top. It came out pretty good. Kids loved itPin It Now!
Millet Flour butter murukku Recipe - Butter Murukku recipe - Millet Chakli recipe - Millet recipes - Diwali Snack Recipe - Festivals recipe - Kids friendly recipe - Snack recipe
Every time I go to India, my mum gives me freshly milled flour (different flours Millet, Bajra, Finger Millet, Multi grain etc...) This time when I was in India my mum made Millet dosa. It was very tasty. I asked my mum for the flour. It is a mix of Varagu ( Kodo Millet), Kuthiraivalli (barnyard millet), Samai (Little Millet) in equal qty. I din't have stepwise pic for making the flour. But you can take equal qty of these millets. Dry roast them till nice aroma released. Cool down and powder it. Store it in an Air tight container. It stays for at least a month but in the fridge even longer. I use this flour for almost like Rice flour. I made butter murukku with this. It came out very crispy. It is quite addictive too.Pin It Now!

Sometimes I just do it for dinner yes your right, I don't need any special occasion to make a quick kheer. When I told my son I am going to make Macaroni kheer he told me it sound bit weird. But in the end he liked it too.Pin It Now!
Other day I visited my sis and she asked for valaipoo vada. I knew the ingredients but not exact measurements. So I called my mum to get measurement as I didn't have my recipe notes with me. Also added to my list of things to be posted. Recently we had space under our blocks for common gardening. There was a Plantain tree there. It had couple of flowers and she allowed me to take some, nice of her. I started using that space for my little gardening effort. I have added onion as the last ingredient as my first son likes it without onion. So reserved the dough for him with out onion. You can mix in all the ingredients together. Add onion as the last ingredient.Pin It Now!
