Mango Thokku - Manga Thokku Recipe - Pickle recipe

Back home we have a mango tree and my mum sent the mango through my friend. I wanted to do pickle but I like thokku. So decided to make thokku. I asked my mum to send the recipe to me. This goes well with curd rice. I also like thokku dosa will post the recipe soon. I know these days people buy Pickles however I prefer homemade ones as it doesn't contain any preservatives.

This week my kids are at home so wanted to try something simple yet healthy for their breakfast. I tried this chocolate banana sandwich during one of my visit to China. Normally I try to be back for weekend. However this trip stretched beyond the weekend. Being away from home for the weekend I want to treat myself to stay motivated. I was thinking my kids would enjoy it. I just managed to do it. So here you go with recipe. I have used Grill for this but you can do it on the flat tawa too...

Amras Ke Malai Aloo - Mango Potato gravy - Side dish for rice, roti, dosa

I love any dish with mango. This dish I tasted at my friends house during my biz trip. It had a very unique taste. They served this gravy for rice. And I asked for recipe. She passed me the recipe.. it is really simple and a blend of different flavours. I didn't have muskmelon seeds and watermelon seeds. I brought it in my last week trip to India. So I was able to try this dish during this mango season itself

My kids are not a big fan of Raisin. So When I saw this recipe at 660 curries by Raghavan Iyer sometime ago I bookmarked it. I had lot raisin left over from temple prasadham. Yes, When we do archanai for gods Raisin is given as prasadham. But Since both of my kids don't like it. So I always add to dishes only if they are not going to eat. So When I saw this it is used in making sauce. So I thought probably I can sneak it in. When I did they really loved it

I have posted Semiya kheer / Vermicelli payasam in my space. I tasted this version at my friends house a few years ago. At that time I thought she had made the Semiya Payasam / vermicelli Kheer but sweeten with Dates. I liked the dish and asked for the recipe. She gave it to me through email. I moved it into my keep folder. I didn't know the name for it.  After blogging I saw Sheer khurma in many blogs and got know the name of it. Here you go with the recipe

After trying chocolate banana sandwich I wanted to try peanut butter banana sandwich. Normally when my kids are at home I serve 2 fruits for their breakfast. Initially I thought of using green apple but my son asked for banana. So I made this with banana. If you prefer Green Apple go ahead and replace banana with green apple. I love any  simple shake with yogurt. Rose flavoured drink is my favourite too. I had this Rose flavoured drink at my friends place. Later she told me it is made with Gulkand. It is very refreshing and perfect for this hot summer.

I have posted Jeera rice, cranberry and nuts rice before. Jeera rice is very simple to make and is so flavourful. It also goes well with a lot of dishes. This time I wanted to try Jeera rice with Almond. I tried this when visited my friend during sometime ago. It is a really nice healthy combo and the addition of nuts provide balanced nutrition.

I have posted Millet idiyappam recipe before using millet flour. However I had a request for grinding method. So I wanted to post this using Little Millet. This is an easy method too. If you don't have millet flour you can try this method. I didn't add any coconut for grinding batter. You can add 1/4 cup coconut gratings while grinding the batter. This recipe doesn't require any fermentation too. If you don't have the big presser (like in the pic) you can make it in normal Idiyappam presser.

After trying Matcha waffles, I wanted to try a dark chocolate and Matcha combo. Kids are not big fan of green tea. With the addition of chocolate they really loved it. Kadai Vegetables - Side dish for roti / Kulcha / Rice - Simple side dish for rice or roti

Kadai vegetable is one of the dishes I order in Indian restaurants if I go out with my colleagues. I always think this is safer option for non Indians. Some people like Paneer butter masala but some of them didn't prefer the paneer .. So for them Kadai vegetable is safer. I rarely do Kadai vegetable at home. The other day when I wanted to do some side dish I had few vegetables left over in the fridge but none of them is enough by itself. So decided to do some mixed vegetable gravy. Kids loved the addition of mushroom but it is completely optional. I have followed the recipe of my Kadai Paneer

thuthuvalai thuvaiyal - Healthy Thuvaiyal recipe

This time when I went for holiday I had a list of things to try / do in India. Thuthuvalai is one of it as I don't get it in Singapore. My dad eats thuthuvalai podi everyday. He swears that it cures his cold spell. I love the store bought podi my mother brought it last time when she visited me. This thuvaiyal goes well with rice / idli or dosa. English name for this is Pea Eggplant  or claiming brinjal

Watermelon Granita - Simple summer treat - healthy dessert - Summer cooler

I am not a very big fan of icy icy dessert. When I was carrying my 2nd son I was craving for dessert with ice. From there onwards I love to have dessert which are more icy desserts. Fruits which are high in water content are good for making granita. Sometime I get very very sweet watermelon. So whenever I get those variety after making juice for kids I will do Granita. Of all I love watermelon granita.

I am a big fan of millets. I wanted to try this puttu for quite some time. After I started to cook with millets my mum also try to make millet. She is having diabetes and her doctor has advised to take more millet base recipes. So she started to stock more millets. She got good Pearl millets and I asked her to make flour. She had done it before I have India. So I don't have pics. But just fry till nice aroma released and grind to powder

Every time I visit my friend she does this plain coconut milk biryani with some spicy / rich side dish. I really love the slight flavour of coconut with little spices.. Esp the side dish she serves. I had this recipe from her and it is very simple. It is perfect for party also. It has a slight sweet taste because of raisin. I find that gives unique taste to this rice. So don't skip it

Corn Soup - Easy soup recipe - Starter recipe

I like corn soup it is one of my saviors during my early days when we go out with my colleagues in Singapore. I like the Chinese version of it. However in this recipe I didn't add corn flour. Will post that version as soon as possible. I am waiting for its recipe from my local friend. Even though I like Corn I seldom do it at home as my 2nd son doesn't eat corn. I have tried in many ways. I had Corn Ice cream in Brazil may be I have to do that for him lol!. I didn't strain the grinded Corn as I was ok with Corn bits. If you prefer strain to get the juice and use Juice for the soup. If you use juice don't add water.
