I always have store bought bajra flour. Last time when my mom visited she told me that the flour was not so nice as it taste so old. And next time when I visited her she pre packed all millet flour. Mums are always best!. She is true.  I could taste the difference of mill brought / made flour. It is fresh and has nice aroma. I love to make kanji and I can have this for breakfast or lunch (when I am home). It is really refreshing and quite filling.

Udipi Sambar - Udupi sambar - Side dish for Idli / dosa or rice - Sambar with freshly masala

I seldom do Araichu Vitta Sambar or Arachuvitta sambar as it takes only a bit of time also the sambar tends to be thick. Then When my mum visited me I realized I was grinding too much masala and dhal is also more. We don't need same amount of dhal as in normal sambar. So Now days I do make it more often and it is not that thick any more. Making freshly grinded masala base sambar tastes really good and perfect alternativw to normal sambar powder based sambars

I love to try different variety of idli. I do dal / dhal uttappam often. I wanted to try idli with that. It came out so nice. When you grind the Urad dhal fluffy and dhal/ rice mixture into slight coarse batter you can get very soft idli. I have tried this most of my other varieties. It never failed me. This idli my family didn't even notice any change from normal idli. Healthy yet no compromise in the taste.

Initially I was planning to make cup cake. I was bit lazy to do so later changed to cake. I wanted to try this coffee cake for a while. I wanted to do something without any oil or butter. I tried once with cream but it didn't turn out good. So I keep postponing. Later I saw few recipes with greek yogurt and fresh cream .. I decided to try out this combo. I was crossing my finger till it is done. To my surprise it came out so perfect.. Cake was so soft and tasty. It finished within a day

This is simple Naivedhya / neivedhyam  recipe. This can be done for Sri rama navami or tamil new year or Vishu. I remember during my childhood my grandma does it during festivals. My mum seldom does it. I do it whenever I have little time but need something quick for Neivedhyam. I find it quite refreshing too. I didn't add pachai karpooram(edible camphor)  and tulasi leaves as I didn't had it at had .. But my grandma used to add those too..

I got avocados from my friend. It was really creamy and sweet. Loved every bit of it. The avocado I wanted to try popsicle with avocado for long time.  After tasting the 1st avocado,  popsicle came into my mind. It was really creamy and tasty. Much better than normal ice cream! I wanted to try the Matcha waffle for my breakfast using my recipe. I saw this post from Rakskitchen.. I loved the texture of the waffles also love the fact it had lemon as Lemon and Matcha goes well. I also wanted to substitute 50% 50% with whole wheat flour. It turnout to be wonderful.. I love to try different idiyappam recipes (String hoppers).. during my college days idiyappam made with rice flour was one of my least preferred dish for breakfast or dinner. I like idiyappam with freshly grinded batter. However after marriage it has changed. When you need decide menu for everyday idiyappam comes very handy (still I don't really like plain rice flour one however I am ok with flavoured one like pepper, lemon , tomato or sweet etc..).  Wheat is really easy and tasty too.. you should try it out

Happy ugadi for all the readers! I like Poli esp with channa dal Poornam but my kids are not a big fan. So I was looking for opportunities to make it (otherwise I will have to finish what I make).  My friend who is an expert in this gave me the recipe sometime ago .. these days my mum makes very few sweets at home (she is also scared of eating all .. If she buys she can buy only 1 or 2 pieces) This is rich and tasty snack often done for neivadyam and for lot of festivals like Varalakshmi nombu, Ganesha chaturthi etc..I have done the Stuffing about the same way as how I did it for

We do millet base dishes at least 3 times a week. I have tried different dishes with millet so far it has been quite successful. My entire family likes it. I never tasted Jigarthanda‬ in India. But after moving to SG, once I was with my Madurai friends in Murugan idli Kadai and It was pretty hot outside. I saw this drink while it was being made and I asked what it was and my friends explained about it. So I tried and after that I take it whenever I visit them. It is heavy but really refreshing. I wanted to do it at home and I asked for the recipe from my friends and I got it from them. I don't know this is traditional or not but it tasted really good.

Sprouts and peanut butter salad - Protein Rich salad recipe

My kids love Peanut butter in fact most kids do. However getting kids to eat sprouts is not easy. As a mom you really wish your kids can eat sprouts as it is high in protein and good for growing kids. My kids will eat sprouts in the salad just because I asked them to do it. I had this Spanish rice in my last trip to Brazil. It tasted good and it was pretty close to mexican rice. I wanted to try this at home. I have googled it for the recipe but I couldn't zero in any one in particular. In the end I made my own with some guesses based on the taste I had. It came out pretty close. Tasted so yummy!

Last time when I was in India I visited Ente Keralam. Food was so tasty. I particularly enjoyed the drink with tender coconut. It was so refreshing and it had a unique taste but was very refreshing. I asked the server for the ingredients he told me it is made up of Tender coconut water, mint, young coconut from tender coconut. I have added little bit of coconut milk too. It is really refreshing. Hara bhara kabab recipe - healthy snack

I always look for recipes to sneak in vegetables that we don't like to eat. Peas is one such recipe. My 2nd son is not a big fan of peas if I add it in any gravy I will have to remove it before serving him. I had Hara bhara kabab at my cousin place. Spinach and Green Peas are main ingredients in addition to Potato. So when I saw this recipe in Venkatesh Bhat show as part of Vijay TV show I have decided to give it a try. I try to include Millet as part of our menu at least 3 times a week. In my last trip to India I basically got all the millet roasted and made powder by giving it in mills. I have been trying different things with it. It really turns out to be great option for replacing rice flour in most traditional rice flour dishes. Idiyappam is one such dish.

Oats Tikki - Oats patties - Healthy snack recipe

My kids love any tikki. I love it too because you can serve it in multiple ways as snack or as patties for burger or stuffing for wraps. This also can quick way to hide vegetables for your fussy eaters. I particularly like this tikki as it uses lentil as a base not potato. This can be served as starters or as snack for after school / work. It is quite tasty and filling yet very healthy snack

I love Kheer. esp for breakfast it is quick and easily can make it as healthy as you want. For this one I had added Jaggery instead of sugar and didn't use any Ghee. Richness for this kheer comes from Almond and Cashew paste. If you want it more rich then fry Foxtail millet in a teaspoon of ghee.

My great grand ma makes this halwa and it really tastes good. These days I have tasted it only in marriages. Ashoka Halwa is a very popular sweet dish in Tanjavur and Thiruvaiyaru.
