coconut burfi - Simple diwali / deepavali sweet

This is one dish I have done many times (even my kids were asking why I keep doing as normally they don't get to eat dishes that often as I try new stuff for our post) for one reason or other I couldn't take snaps. Karasev - Diwali / Deepavali recipes

I wanted to make Karasev at home for quite sometime. My mum has special karandi / spoon for making karasev. Last few times when she was here she was saying you need that spoon to do karasev, normal murukku presser will not work for it as karasev is done using besan flour. So I kind of give up on the idea however when I was planning for this deepavali / diwali I saw posting in many blogs using normal murukku presser. So I have decided to try. It came out perfectly good. I am happy and my kids are double happy :-)

Last time when my in laws they brought sweet maida biscuit which was very oily so most of it was wasted. But I like the biscuits in mixture. I was tempted to try this at home. My family loves the mixture as normally I used to add lot of dry nuts to it. I love the mixtures because of it balanced nature. This cornflakes mixture tastes as good as traditional version of fried one. Who doesn't want to enjoy this guilt free version?

Oats Vegetable Soup

I like anything which is more soupy. I wanted to try some white soup with vegetables. My husband has oats for breakfast just with milk. Last time when my mum visited me she did something like soup. Oats, vegetable and milk. It was perfect combo. I was not in a mood to cook proper lunch as only I was at home for the meal. So decided to do Oats soup. It is quite filling, tasty and above all healthy!

Maaladu / Roasted Gram Laddu / Roasted gram ladoo / pottukadalai urundai

My 2nd son loves ladoo. Laddu is very simple to make. Even if you are very busy you can do these ladoos in no time. So this is perfect for any last min festival preparation. Even though it is simple to make there is no compromise in the taste. This ladoo is made with ingredients that is available in most Indian houses. Also requires fewer ingredients. Cabbage Pepper Kootu / Gravy

I love cabbage. I love different variety we get in Singapore. Different cabbage provide different flavour. The one with crunchy taste is my favourite. Most of the time I do cabbage soya chunks poriyal. But this time I had left over cabbage which is not enough for poriyal. So decided to do kootu. My kids loved it. Aval (Poha) Mixture (chivda)

My kids love to eat snacks with rice. They need something crunchy to go with meal during lunch time. So If I can make something light (low in calorie or carb) I always for it. I do this Aval mixture or kara pori very often. Murukku is one of their favourite too. My husband also prefer mixture time because of the variety of ingredients in it.

Kesar Burfi with Khoya / Kova - Simple Diwali sweet recipe / Deepavali recipe

I normally buy sugarless khoya / Palkova. I use it to do gravy for Chapathi either kurma or Malai kofta. I had some left over Khoya and decided to try burfi with it. It is very simple. It taste really good. For me I eat milk based sweet. But it has to be really fresh. This makes it perfect for it as it so easy and you can do it well under 20 mins

Yet another sweet (other than Rawa Urundai (rava balls))  which can be done easily if we make the flour and keep it in fridge. When I was carrying my 2nd son I was craving for this sweet. After his birth for sometime I didn't do it at all. Now It is back in season.

I love Kheer. Rava Kheer or Sooji kheer is a very healthy and easily digestive Indian kheer recipe. Whenever I want to have something with milk but not in a mood to have normal falvoured milk drinks like coffee, tea etc.. I will do Kheer. Kheer is so easy to do you can do it in no time. Mint Sevai (Idiyappam) / Mint Rice noodles

I am big fan of Mint. My family is warming up to it recently. I wanted to take advantage of that and make more Mint leaves based dishes. I had some Mint leaves in the fridge for sometime. Vazipoo paruppu usili - paruppu usili - Plantain flower usili - Valaipoo paruppu usili RECIPE

I love usili. I have posted beans paruppu usili, Radish paruppu usili, cluster bean paruppu usili. Last time when my mum visited she did valaipoo paruppu usili. She added coriander seeds while grinding the dhal paste. Normally I don't really add coriander seeds.I liked the variation. It goes very well with curd rice or rasam rice. Normally when I do usili I don't do sambar (yeah too much dhal in one meal!). Here you go with the recipe

Eggless Dulce de Leche Cake

When I made Dulce de Leche. I had few recipes in my mind. But by the time I have decided to use, half of it almost disappear. I realized that my kids were having this like snack :-). Other day when I was doing weekly vegetable shopping I saw very tempting asparagus. I was so tempted to buy. So I asked the shop owner about what they do with it. They said they do simple garlic fry or soup or rice. She gave me few recipes. So without hesitation I brought it. I made this asparagus rice. It came out very nice

Mushroom Pancake

I had some left over Korean pancake flour after making corn pancake. My son wanted to try out the savory pancake with mushroom. Normally for weekend brunch. I thought it won't be bad idea. So I had fresh mushroom in the fridge. I served with normal tomato / chilli sauce.. They enjoyed it..They told me that mushroom with all purpose (maida) tasted great. They loved it.

vegetarian minestrone soup with pasta recipe

Whenever I want to have something light or days I want to just go with soup the soup that comes to my mind is minestrone soup with pasta. It is good for dieters. It is quite filling and can be a full meal by itself. Whenever I visit US and craving for hot food most of the time I end up having minestrone soup. For the whole bean you can use any whole bean most of the time I use Rajma however this time I forgot to soak it so ended up using black eye bean. Enjoy the soup!

Chana Palak (Chickpeas in Spinach gravy curry)

I love Palak. It makes it easy to make good and healthy side dish. Most of the time I do Palak Paneer. Once in a while I do variation to it. I wanted to do palak paneer and Unfortunately realized that I didn't have Paneer but had cooked chana so decided to do chana palak. Initially my son was not happy but in the end he told it was not bad.. I love it because it is a low calorie food and very tasty too

Ragi Buttermilk

Ragi is my favourite grain. I do every possible dish with it. I do Ragi butter milk very often, for some reason I couldn't take photos of it. My 2nd son loves Ragi dishes too. My hubby and my first son are not a big fan of it. I do this at least once a week. It is very healthy and filling breakfast
