Creamy Raspberries and Chia seeds shake

I love Chia Seeds easy way to get your protein boost for the day. I normally eat /drink it with water. My son loves Chia seeds too. I wanted to try out it in smoothie. I seldom buy Raspberries. This week when I was doing weekly groceries shopping I saw this lovely red fruit. And couldn't stop my temptation to buy. This smoothie is very filling and perfect for morning breakfast shake

Cauliflower 65, Cauliflower fry, Gobi 65

My kids love any 65 dish who doesn't right? Unless you are dieting or very strict calorie counting. This is something we order quite often for starter when we go out for a meal ( these days kids prefer homemade dishes). Some of the dishes disappear fast. This is one of them. I normally do it after marinated. But you don't have time to marinate it's fine to. Just make sure you don't overcook the cauliflower.

Skinny Cream of Broccoli Soup

My kids love broccoli but with less spices. They told me broccoli flavour is good with less spices. To them broccoli is one of the vegetable that taste great even with simple steaming. They have been asking for soup for quite sometime. As I am not a big fan of this vegetable I keep postponing this. Finally I manage to do this  low calorie / low fat version. Everyone in the family loved it. In fact this is so regular now a days at our home

Water chestnut barley drink - Barley Water Chestnut Drink

I Love drinks which has its own health benefits. Last week during my weekly vegetable shopping I saw the very thin sugar cane. I asked the shop owner on the usage of it. She was talking about using it in Barley drink. She went on to give the recipe for Barley Water Chestnut Drink. She was recommending me to try as it is very tasty and good for health. In fact some of ingredients she gave it for free (I am very regular with her and she knows me pretty well for years). Drink is very refreshing

Sweet Aval / sweet phoa /Sweet beaten rice

My husband prefer to have varitety at least 2 instead of single dish for dinner. Normally I do something simple like soup,salad or kheer. During my childhood my mum makes simple sweet aval with milk, sugar and aval. It is good quick after school snack. I like Jaggery over sugar. So my sweet version of aval is with jaggery without milk. This is simple to make yet very delicious. Enjoy this anytime of the day

Manathakkali keerai thanni saaru

I love Manathakkali. Both my mum and my MIL does this very often as they get this from their backyard. When we are in school we used to fight for the fruit from it too..My mum does lot of dishes with it. Most of the time I do only mannathakkali kootu. Recently I have started making thogayal with it also. Kids love it also.

Korean Corn Pancake

This is yet another dish I tried when I was in China few months back. After trying once I kept going back to it. Even though it is called pancake I had this for lunch. It is very yummy. Other day while I was at fairprice for weekly shopping I saw this Korean pancake mix. Immediately I remembered the pancake I had in China. I grabbed it.  It came out pretty well

Mushroom Masala

My kids love mushroom. Most of the time I use it for Mushroom rice or Mushroom Soup. I also do Mushroom masala for chapatti / roti. It tastes very good for rice also. This is simple yet tasty masala. My kids eat extra chapatti with this. It tastes great when you do it with fresh white button mushrooms.

Maple Garam Masala Walnuts

I must admit these days I am on a walnut spree. My son love it. Even though raw nuts are good for health I like have masala nuts now and then. This is perfect combo. I love every bite of it. This is perfect to be added in salad or good snack by itself. I find it hard to stop eating walnuts when it is spiced.

Capsicum Fried Rice

This is yet another simple rice which is easy to match with any side dish also very quick to make. I have used  only yellow and green capsicum in this but you can use any combo or just one variety. Even though less spices are used this quite flavourful. I have used grinded paste of small onion, green chillies, ginger and garlic in this recipe. If you prefer you can just saute it. I prefer the grinded paste as it blends with rice nicely

Sweet Sevai / Idiyappam


I had about 1 cup left over sevai. Which is not good enough for making any flavoured upma or sevai. I didn't have any side dish to go with. So was wondering what to do with it. I remembered a sweet snack I had at my friends place with rice sevai. I have decided to give it a try. Since it is sweet 1 cup is good enough to give it a try. It tasted great and pretty much everyone loved it

Pepper Idli

I had some left over idlies. Normally if I had any left over I make idli upuma Method 1 or 2nd method with kollu podi or Masala idli with all the masala. I remember having pepper idli at my friends place quite some time ago I tried last week and it tasted good. So tried again this week and this time I was able to take photos. My kids love this version than other versions. This can be good after school snack.

Lemon Rasam

I do Lemon rasam whenever I make variety rice for lunch. Rasam at our home is just for me and my hubby. Kids take rasam only when they are sick. I love to try with different kind of rasam. I take it like a soup. If I have fried appalam or papad I normally put it in Rasam and drink / eat it. Perfect treat for me. Enjoy this lemon rasam with hot rice or just as soup.

Zucchini Bajji / Fritters

I left with some half Zucchini in the fridge. It's the weekend and nothing there for the kids for the snack. So I have decided to do bhajji with it. It is also my kids favourite snack from their childhood. This is one snack that didn't change thro' their growing years.  It is pretty fast if you have ready made bajji or bonda mix. This is perfect tea time snack also very simple snack for unexpected guests. Enjoy!

Urad Dhal Kheer (Payasam)

After hearing all goodness about urad dhal I try to include it at least twice a week as part of my meal. I normally have urad dhal kanji (sweet version). But I wanted to make slight modification and try out Kheer. I loved it So I found another way to include urad dhal as part of my diet!

Bok Choy With Dhal

I brought Bok Choy from the wet market. I wanted to do soup / noodles with it. but some reason keep postponing it. In the end I have decided to do simple stir fry with it. It tasted so good. My kids who are all big fan of green leaf vegetable loved it too. Bok Choy is very high in nutrients. After many years in Singapore I seldom buy green leaf vegetables other than what I know. Last year my sis was here and she was so happy to see so many leafy vegetables in the wet market. She is the who gave me details about how good bok choy is.. from there on I buy this leafy vegetable very often.

Adding soya chunks to the meal provides easy option for cooking up protein rich meal. Recently my kids are fascinated about soya chunks. I have posted number of dishes with soya chunks. I have done this cutlet many times. It can be served as snack or patties to the burger. Perfect for busy weekday dinner or lazy weekend snack/dinner.

Tomato Pasta Sauce

When I go to Pizza hut I always order Veg Pasta. My kids love it too. My kids love the pasta in any form. I love homemade tomato sauce. Because I can control the ingredients in it. I love to add more vegetables to the sauce (sneak in more vegetables for the kids). So my sauce is more thick if you prefer to have less vegetables reduce the vegetables. I have reduce the onion in this because of my first son. If you prefer more onion you can add more.

Other day in one of the restaurant I have tried creamy pumpkin soup. I was drawn to it's simple yet addictive taste. I did some search on the net. I was not happy with any particular one. I kind of come up with my own. Everyone loved it. This is definite keeper for me

Garlic Rasam

In our family only I like Rasam. It is like Soup for me. My husband takes only 1 tablespoon at the most. Kids eat it when they are sick. So Rasam is mostly done for weekend lunch only. Since it is for me I love to try different Rasam. Garlic is has it special place in my diet. Love the flavour of it. Garlic rasam is so flavourful. It is very similar to Rasam just that with loads of Garlic

Baby Corn Fried rice

I had baby corn in the fridge. Also it has been a while since I have used coconut in the fried rice. The taste of coconut and tomato combination never fails me. So decided to use that as base for this fired rice. Till my marriage I seldom had baby corn. But after my marriage I have seen this vegetable in the market but never know what to do with it. Avocado Quinoa

Avocado is healthy. Quinoa is healthy and packed with protein. How about combining these 2. Quinoa has it's own taste but when combine with different spices or ingredients it taste so different. It blends well with the spices added. This avocado Quinoa so yummy I can have it as starter or as meal itself.

Corn Drink

When I was in China earlier my colleague has recommended me to try corn drink. But she couldn't explain about it. So I was at first hesitant to try. We still went ahead to order. But the waiter forgot about it. We were quite full and decided not to remind her. Towards end of the trip we all remembered that we never tried corn drink so this time we ordered it again. We all expected something cold  and watery. When it arrived we are all pleasantly surprised with the taste and texture of it. It is quite filling too. They served as hot drink. When I made it at home I had it as cold drink. Both versions tasted good

Cauliflower Chutney

I love Vegetable chutney. Last week for dosa I had some chutney at home. I asked my helper what that was. It was not tasting like Onion neither tomato. She told me it is Cauliflower. I was surprised by it. I thought we will have some unique taste / smell of cauliflower in the chutney. So I asked her to make it for idli again. It goes very well with idli or dosa.

Tomato Basil Soup

My husband is big fan of tomato. He literally takes anything with tomatoes. I have developed liking of Basil recently. Basil gives some unique taste to the dishes. I love it! I am lucky that my kids also like it. So these days I stock it up on basil leaves every week. I love tomatoes which is in deep red. It is very tasty. I made this soup few times. I managed to take snap this time. It is really easy and healthy too
