Jackfruit Seeds Sambar

I ran out of vegetables towards the end of the week. I wanted to make some sambar. I left with only few vegetables in the fridge. None of the usual sambar vegetables were there. My helper was suggesting to make jackfruit seeds sambar. I told her I never tried before. She assured me it will be tasty. So I have decided to give it a try. It came out pretty good

Sweet and hot Sesame Tofu

Whenever I visit China my only source of Protein is Tofu. Actually for the past 3 years I made a point to include Soya products as part of my daily diet. Being Singaporeans my kids are big fan of Tofu too. I normally use Firm Tofu for making any fry like Pepper Tofu, Baby Corn Tofu Fry,  or Just Pepper shallow fry. I use soft Tofu (silken Tofu) for making dough for Chappathi or chapathi  or Roti  or Parotta. I normally do this Sweet and hot sesame tofu for morning snacks during weekends. Even though I have done it many times I never get chance to click. This time I made a point to click. So here you go with the recipe

Dhal Makhani / Dal Makhani

This is one of the dish must have whenever I dine out in Indian restaurant. But after kids they always wanted something with Paneer. So ended up compromising even though they encourage me to order either additional or in place of Paneer. I had some whole urad dhal left for quite sometime and had little bit of cream left. So decided to try out the Dhal Makhani at home. Everyone liked it and kids said they can try this out next time when we dine out

Tomato Cream Cheese Macaroni

Macaroni! tell which kids don't like it. My kids are mad about. This is always in the top of their choice. I also love it because making macaroni means less time in the kitchen. This pasta is one of their favorite for long time (which is surprising). This is one of our regular weekend dinner

Ice Lemon Tea

When I first moved to Singapore I was pretty addicted to coke. Whenever I go out I order coke. But after sometime I lost the craze. Then I have switched to fresh juices. However whenever I travel to US it is difficult to find fresh juices together with main meals. So I ended up trying Ice Lemon tea, I liked it. It is very easy to do and quite refreshing. Moreover I am a big tea person. I love tea both with milk and without milk.

Carrot Halwa

Carrot Halwa is one of the first few sweet I learned to do after my marriage. It is my husband favourite too. Somehow I always think it is one of the healthier Sweet (because I use less sugar and low fat milk). For my 2nd son this is only way to include carrot in his diet without much fuss.

Cream of Cabbage Soup

My son has a habit of having soup during his exam week. He believes that this keeps him healthy. However he is selective. He prefers simple and less spicy versions. Cabbage cream soup is one such simple and very less spice is used in it. It is also good for people who are on diet. Haven't you heard cabbage helps to lose weight? This can be used to replace your meal or can be served as starter.

Lemon Sevai / Lemon rice noodle / Lemon idiyappam

Whenever I have left over idiyappam / Sevai next day I pack for my lunch. But for past few times we managed to finish it. After long time I had some left over idiyappam last week. I took the oppurtunity to make Lemon idiyappam. It is very light and perfect for snack too

Rajasthani Vegetable gravy with green tomatoes

I saw this recipe somewhere sometime ago. I bookmarked it and wanted to try for quite sometime. Normally I get only 1 or 2 green tomatoes so never get a chance to do it. When I was in India my mum had tomatoes at her backyard when I told her about trying this dish she was not in for it. So ended up not doing it. This week in the market I saw quite a few green tomatoes and grabbed the oppurtunity to try this.I did for chappathi. I was not expecting so much due to the unique combination of vegetables but to my surprise it tasted good.

Vegan Basil Tofu

This is yet another simple Tofu dish. I normally order this whenever I visit any Thai restaurant. I was not sure whether my kids will like the flavour of basil. But some time ago I managed to do it at home. Like any other Tofu dish this also disappeared very fast. For first few times I never got chance to do the click. This time I managed to take the pictures. This is very simple and healthy.

Dal Palak / Spinach with Dal / Dhal palak

Everytime when I buy palak my son asks for palak paneer. However after starting this blog I have posted many different items with palak. I wanted to try this healthy and simple comforting dal palak. It goes well with either rice or chappathi / roti / chapathi. It is also good dish to make when you feel like not spending long hours at kitchen (most of the time I feel that way :-))

Gongura pappu (Dhal)

This is something new for me. My mum always do Gongura pachadi or in tamarind only.  I heard this from my Andra friend. This is something I haven't tasted or posted. So I couldn't wait to try it out. It was so different than normal sambar and good variation to go with rice.

Zucchini Chutney (thogayal)

Couple of weeks ago I tried out the Zhucchini Chutney at my friends place. I liked it lot. But forgot to get recipe. I had couple of  Zhucchini in the fridge and wanted to try out something for idli. I was roughly guessing the ingredients for the chutney I had and tried out.. It came out wonderful

Honey (sesame) walnut

I love nuts. I prefer to eat raw nuts than spiced ones. Last year in my office we had health fair. I tried Honey walnut I finished whole pocket within 30 mins. It is so simple to make what a dangerous proposition. My kids love it also. My son who is also big fan of raw nuts also like this honey walnut.

Paneer Mutter (peas)

When I asked my son what he wanted for dinner he mentioned Paneer and roti. I was thinking what to do.. Of course wanted to do something that I haven't posted yet. So decided to do paneer mutter. I have done this couple of times before. Since my 2nd son is not a big fan of Peas dish with peas is very rare at our house hold. Even this time I had to take out the gravy before I add peas to it. Rest of the family loved it. It can go well with jeera rice / any other pulav also

Small Potato Pulav

I brought small potato to do palak potato my kids wanted palak paneer. So I had left over small potato. I remembered pulav from Mallika Badrinath. This recipe has unique blend of spices. It is free from normal biryani seasoning. So if you want to try some variety rice but bored of usual rice(s) you can try out this.. It tastes really good

Spicy Diamond Cut

Till we are in the college my mum use to do only sweet diamond cut. However when we were in college we are not big sweet eaters (me and my sisters) So mum was running out of options to do quick snacks. In the end she tried this spicy version. It was instant hit. She does it with maida (all purpose flour). When I do I either do it with full whole wheat or half maida / half wheat. It is quite addictive. There are many different names for it Maida Biscuits or Khara Biscuits

Elephant Yam / Senai Kizhangu Chips

Most favourite chips of mine is Elephant Yam / Senai Kizhangu Chips. I love it anytime. Back home I like the version we get it from hot chips. Last time when I was in India my mum did this at home. My kids also loved it. I followed her method and tried it out. It is great side dish or as a snack by itself

Ragi Almond Cookies (Finger Millet cookies)

I saw a recipe sometime ago in cook like priya Ragi almond cookies. I bookmarked it immediately. I love Ragi in any form. My kids love the cookies too. Normally I buy britannia nutri choice ragi cookies. After seeing the cookies at Priya's space I have decided to bake it myself. It came out extremely good

Mango Sambar

I love anything to do with Mango.. Mango session brings special joy to me. Mango sambar is one of my favourite. However rest of the family neutral to it. Once in a while I just sneak it in. My mum was visiting me. So took the opportunity to make mango sambar. Now a days you can see mango all over.. Whole house is filled with aroma of it. But nothing beats the mango we get back home. My MIL house has mango tree. Mango from that tree goes well for sambar. I am really missing it :-)

Pineapple Rasam

Pineapple is my favourite. However after moving to SG I cannot eat Indian pineapple. I get soar throat the moment I have it. However SG ones esp honey pineapple is ok with me. My kids are not big fan of pineapple. So whenever I go out for lunch with friends I always take pineapple juice. Recently if I make dishes with pineapple kids have it also. So I do pineapple based dishes. I have posted Pineapple Kesari, Pineapple Rice, Pineapple smoothie before. Today I am posting another dish with Pineapple Pineapple Rasam

Hot and Sweet Lime Tofu

Tofu! What a versatile ingredient. You can make so many simple / delicious dishes with it. It can be starter, side dish or mixed into the main dishes like rice or noodles. In Singapore you get so many different variety of Tofu. So I as confessed many times these days tofu one of main source of protein for me. I am lucky as my kids are very big fans of Tofu too. Because of this even if I go to China I can still have good meal even though I am pure vegetarian. Combination of spices in this dish is really so nice it has all the taste you can think of. So try it out to enjoy

Aam Ka Panna Raw Mango Drink

I normally order different drink (those that we don't make at home) at restaurants. Like my kids comment, As a family member of food blogger has both advantages and disadvantages. Advantage is, they get to try lot of new dishes disadvantage is, it is not that often. I brought couple of mango last week. At the time of buying I wanted to do Mango sweet pachadi in my mind. For some reason as days passed by I lost the interest. My helper was commenting about goodness of raw mango drink. She said in her village they drink mango drink without salt if they have fever. It is really good. So I have decided to do Aam Ka Panna or Raw mango drink

Kalkandu (Sugar Candy) Pongal

I never tried Kalkandu pongal. After seeing so delicious looking photos in many blogs I have decided to try it out. It came out extremely well. This is good alternative to Sakarai / sweet pongal which is using Jaggery
