Mushroom, Chana (Chick Pea)Bread Sandwich

I love to try different things with bread (as that is the main breakfast item kids have every day.) I need make sure they get variety and doesn't get bored with it. Mushroom is their favourite so anything we do with mushroom would be ok.

Ingredients:

Bread - 6 Pieces ( I have used focaccia bread)
Button Mushroom - 750 g (sliced thinly)
Chana / Chick Peas- 1 Cup (soaked overnight and cooked with salt. Drain the water)

Pepper Powder - 1 teaspoon
Fat free philadelphia Cheese spread - 3 tablespoon (You can skip this and increase cream to 5 tablespoon instead)
Onion  - 1 and 1/2  finely chopped
Cream - 2 tablespoon
carom  leaves (Omam in tamil) - 4-6 leaves
Butter - 1 tablespoon
Oil - 1 tablespoon

Method:

Heat the kada and add one tablespoon of butter
Add Onion and fry till it turns brown
Add sliced mushroom and fry till it is brown
Add Cooked Chick Pea, Salt and pepper powder. Fry for 2 mins
Add Carom Leaves, Cream cheese and cream and mix it well (for 3 mins). Add Coriander leaves and mix it well for 10 sec
Switch it off and keep it aside
Cut the bread into half and toast (on tawa or toaster by applying butter)
Stuff the gravy between and serve the bread toast.

Note

This sandwich was really supper duper hit with the kids and my husband. It is quite filling also and very high in protein
If you want it to be healthy you can replace butter with oil or butter used for bread toast, Cream with Fat Free cheese spread or fat free mayonnaise
