Nutella Coffee

What a combination. I love Hot Chocolate, Cold Coffee. I wanted to try Cold Coffee Chocolate. But didn't have Chocolate  powder  at home. Decided to try out with Nutella instead. My son jumped with joy of that idea. He has started to develop liking for Coffee (he is allowed to have every fortnight) Nutella is his top favourite

Semiya (vermicelli) mixed vegetable biryani

Before my marriage my mum used to do this and after marriage I do it by just adding all the vegetables and the taste is very different (of course mum's one is better). After kids has grown up they prefer to have Vermicelli with just carrot (Vermicelli Uppuma).. I was talking to my mum yesterday and she was mentioning about Vermicelli biryani. Suddenly I got the urge to do it.

Ingredients:

Oats and Besan Pancake

Having bored with normal oats Porridge(Kankji) I have decided to try something different. Today I did Oats besan pancake. I was not very sure how it will turn up. But it came out pretty good. This will go into my recipe book for sure as everyone in our family loved it


Ingredients

1 cups quick cooking rolled oats
1/4 cup besan (bengal gram flour)
1 onion , finely chopped
2 tablespoon finely chopped coriander

Peas Pulav (Rice) - Peas Pulao with Soy Milk - One pot meal - Simple rice recipe - Lunch box recipe

I love Peas however my 2nd son is completely against it (in any form or shape) so Peas dishes pretty rare for family meals. Most of the time I do it if I am eating alone or with my 1st son.. So I have this special craze for Peas items. Whenever I get chance I will grab the opportunity (to do Peas). After quite sometime I made Peas Pulav.

Possible Diet Plan # 1

Breakfast: Fat Free Cheese, Vegetables salad ( with fat free dressing)
Snack: Crackers (choose low fat, high calcium, high iron, low sugar etc..) - 2 pieces
Lunch: Tofu with Cabbage, 1/2 Cup Rice (preferably not white. U can try Brown, or Mixed rice, black or Quinoa)
Snack: 1 Fruit (recommended serving size). Choose healthy fruits like Kiwi, Apple, Rock Melon, Mango, Water melon, Dragon Fruits, Papaya, Honey Dew, Orange etc..
Dinner: Yogurt with Fruits (with Apple is best, you can have mango etc..) Select plain high calcium no sugar or plain with healthy choice option and mix the fresh fruits with it


Water at least 1.5 to 2 litres

Mango Salad

Mango Mango everywhere mango.. My husband came from India and he brought whole boxes of Mango. So I am trying everything with Mango from milkshake to salad. Of course to do this I need to get my kids permission as they love to eat it alone (just plain mango).. I dangled a carrot in front of him he can have with Corn chips I had at home.. I guess that worked! This recipe is inspired by Jey's idea for serving this with Corn Scoops (http://www.jeyashriskitchen.com/2012/05/mango-salsa-recipe.html)

Nutella Palmiers

After our Europe holiday kids are quite into Nutella (even before they were big fans of Nutella but I allow them twice a week.. During holiday they almost had everyday and lot of variety). I had left over pastry sheets after vegetable puff. Decide to try out Nutella Palmiers. Easy way to win over your kids. This recipe is so easy even bachelors and husbands can do it ....

Eggless No-Bake Mango Cheesecake Recipe

I saw this interesting recipe from http://www.cookingandme.com/2011/06/eggless-no-bake-mango-cheesecake-recipe.. It has been quite a popular one. Also in top 10 of no bake mango dessert at http://www.egglesscooking.com/2012/06/14/no-bake-mango-desserts/ .. I really wanted to do this with fresh mango pulp but I lost to my kids ( I got the box of mango from India but my monsters didn't allow me to use it for this recipe as they were not sure how it will be and they thought it is sinful to waste precious fruit) Ended up doing only with tinned pulp. It tasted so heavenly Thanks to Nags for introducing and her successful marketing ( demand or interest creation :-))

Blueberry MilkShake

I love Blueberry for its color and goodness. I have seen it only after coming to Singapore. My kids love it too so we always fight have our portion. However lately my 2nd son developed allergy to it. So whenever I buy blueberry It is more for me and for my first son. I hate plain milk but now a days I need to find some option to have at least one cup a day. Most of the time I take in the form of milk shakes or smoothies or soya milk. Chill milk shake for a hot summer day!

Garlic, Onion Puli Kulambu (Kuzhambu)


Normally I do Puli Kulambu with Sambar podi. I saw this recipe in one of the cookery show for vatha kulambu. It is done from scratch. No vegetable at home so used garlic and small (sambar) onion. Everytime when I do puli kulambu I make it the previous day. It always taste good the next day. This Kulambu lasts for longer time even without keeping it in fridge. The taste was so great! The extra effort definitely worth it

Pumpkin Quinoa

I love Pumpkin. It is good for skin.. It taste very good when we do sambar. Pumpkin sambar is one of my kids favourite and it really goes well with Idli..  I wanted to try with quinoa it came out very nice


Ingredients


Cooked Quinoa - 1 Cup
Cooked Pumpkin - 1Cup (Cut the Pumpkin into smaller cube (u can leave skin if the skin is clean and soft).Add a pinch of Turmeric powder and salt. Cook till the pumpkin is soft)
Onion (small) - chopped in lengthwise 1/4 cup
Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon

7 Bean Soup

I saw this wonder full dhal mix (7 Beans Mix. Azuki Beans, Black Beans, Mung Beans, Kidney Beans, Lima Beans, Red Lentils and Green Lentils) in shop when I was doing weekend groceries.. I was so tempted and brought home one pocket. Later I was wondering what to do with it.  I decide to try Soup first. It was pretty tasty


Ingredients


7 bean mix - 1 cup
Carrot - 1/2 if it is big if small 1
Onion - 1 finely chopped
Garlic -3 pods
Pepper - 6-8 (to your spice level)
Red Chilli - 2
Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
Salt per taste
Oil - 1 teaspoon

Masala Chapathi / Chappathi Uppuma - Chappathi Uppuma

I had left over chappathi from yesterday dinner. Weekend is for something which is not made from bread. So I can do Masala Chappathi (Chappathi uppuma?). I had left over vegetables (few beans,  1 carrot , handful of Cauliflower etc..) May be I should call this all left over mix? LOL

Ingredients:

Chappathi / Chapathi - 5 (cut into 1 inch pieces)
onion - 2 medium sliced
tomato-2 sliced

Nutella & Banana Smoothie


After our last week holidays, My kids fell love with Nutella (even otherwise they like it.. But in holiday they get to eat different type of nutella dishes). I wanted to try Nutella Banana smoothie we had.. I used Yogurt instead of milk

1 cup nonfat vanilla yogurt
⅓ cup Nutella
1 banana, sliced
1 teaspoon of Sugar ( optional, I didn't use)

Pineapple Pachadi

I find this nice interesting recipe at http://www.kamalascorner.com/2009/06/pineapple-gojju.html..  I love pineapple. Pineapple has good properties and it is good for health. So wanted to try out this. We had this side dish to Chappathi. We loved it.. It is not suitable for people with Diabetes

Senai (Yam) Tawa Fry





I saw this recipe at http://www.kamalascorner.com/2011/12/senai-yam-tawa-fry.html. I 
remember during my college days my friend used to bring this for curd rice and we take this from her and let her eat curd rice alone :-). I normally do Yam fry in different way. My kids are used to it. So not sure whether they will like it so I decide to try it out with smaller qty first. In the end it all of us loved it

Health Tip #15

It has been a while since I posted any health tip, I wanted to share something that I have experienced ...


Identify what triggers your weight gain and control it in the beginning itself. 
Check your weight once in every two week
If there is a change in the weight recollect what changes you have made in your lifestyle (food, Water, sleeping, physical activity). This will help to understand what triggered the change


For me,
When I returned from holiday (of 2 weeks) I have gained 1.5 kg. Sure there was change in water intake and food that I had. Once I adjust it back within 2 days I am back to my original issue. Pin It Now!

Apple Oats Milk Shake

I love Oats, After my diet program I prefer to have apple at least once a day. I find it very effective to have it between lunch and dinner. This weekend when I got up I was looking for options for breakfast. Kids used to have Noodles every Sat. I have stopped taking stuff from processed food. So Need to find something for me (may be for my husband also) It has been a while since I had milkshake without ice cream. Having Apple Oats milkshake would be perfect

Rawa (Rava) Urundai (balls) - Rava Ladoo - Rava Laddu

I like Rawa Urundai but any dish which need to be made into ball shape is big challenge.. It is so difficult to get same size balls ... I always struggle with these dishes (to make even size balls) but my helper / MIL does it in exact same size ... So after making flour I let my helper to do the urundai.. My kids like Rawa urundai also. I normally make the flour (powder) and keep it in the fridge so that I can make it whenever they ask for it

Bittergourd Pachadi

In my growing up days my mum didn't use bitter gourd..I started eating Bitter-gourd in last 3-4 years. I am pretty neutral to it. My kids love bitter gourd roast. My husband hates it. My grand ma used to do this bitter gourd pachadi. Few months back when I was in India she did this and kids loved it. This one you can mix with rice or have it as side dish to Chappathi or even for bread. It taste really good

Sweet Potatoes Chappathi (Chapathi)

After reading about sweet potato I try to include it once a week as part our diet. It has been bit difficult to get kids to eat it. They love stuffed chappathi So I wanted to try out as Sweet Potato Chappathi. I didn't tell them what is inside there and asked them to guess. My hubby and Kids loved the taste of it. Idli Uppuma (Method 2) - Idli Upma

During my college days my mum used to make idli uppuma for evening snack. It is quite filling and it is one dish you can use the same base ingredients but add some different flavour, spice and vegetables to make number of issues. After my kids are born I seldom do this as I prefer the version with plain with lot of small onion but my first son hates onion. My blogging given me opportunity to do the dishes that are rarely done ...

Raw Banana (Vazhaikkai) Poriyal

Raw banana fry is regular vegetable at our household. We do it whenever I am able to get raw banana.. I was sick of spicy fry. so I wanted to try dhal poriyal that my mum used to do. Since raw banana fry is one of very favourite of my 2nd son I needed to get permission to do something different. He reluctantly agreed.

Today I was doing broccoli wrap for the kids. That's one vegetable I don't eat. So was looking in the fridge I had Avocado so decided to Avocado / Cucumber wrap for myself.. In the end only 1 piece left for myself :-)

Mango Murungai(Drumstick) Palaakottai(Jackfruit) sambar

I love mango sambar.We have Mango Tree at my MIL place. Sambar made from that taste so good. They do both normal and sweet sambar. My husband is not a big fan of mango sambar. So instead of having plain mango sambar I add whatever I have like Drumstick, Broad beans and jack fruit seeds. Today I had drumstick and jack fruit seeds so I have used it.

Pepper Tofu

Being vegetarian I include Soya products as part of my diet one way or other. Most of the time simple Tofu fry. Normally I use Kollu Tofu fry. I was bit bored with it so wanted to try something different. So decide to try out pepper fry instead. I saw few recipe in the net. In the end I decided to try my own one


Ingredients:


Firm Tofu diced - 1 Cup
Corn Flour - 2 tablespoon (Mix with water and make paste out of it)

Pepper, Curry Leaves Oats

After I tried the Oats Uppuma, My son wanted something different also. Today morning since I haven't done my weekly groceries shopping nothing left in the fridge. So was thinking what to do for him. I decided to try Pepper and curry leaves powder Oats. It is so easy, tasty and healthy too. This is perfect for weekend cooking and brunch
