This is common dish during mango season at my mother in law house. They have Mango tree at their back yard very nice for this kind of pickle or sambar. Now writing about it made me craving for it. For the past 4 years somehow I am getting it during season.. Not sure this year whether we will get it... It is called maanga oorgai in tamil. It takes hardly ten minutes to prepare this pickle. In Singapore we get mango every time. It is no close to my MIL house Mango but something is better than nothing..This Mango is not bad
Raw mango - firm - 1 medium sized
Mustard seeds - half teaspoon
Red chilli powder - half teaspoon
Urad Dhal - 2 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - little
Salt as required
Asafoetida powder - 2 pinchesCurry leaves - 10
Gingily oil/Nallennai - 1 tablespoon
Wash the mango and pat it dry. Dice the mangoes carefully into fine cubes (one centimeter size) with skin. Keep it aside
For the seasoning, heat oil and add mustard seeds.
When it pops, Add urad Dhal and curry leaves
Fry till Dhal is brown
Mix in red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.Top it with asafoetida powder.
Mix well and fry for 2 mins
Instant mango pickle is ready
